Trip 60 Carp Fishing (2016)

Doing a bit of stalking with one rod today, in a few swims around the lake with Tigers & Corn.  This is until the new bait arrives tomorrow and I will be on the Catalyst by Spotted Fin.

image

First spot of the day.

I gave it just over an hour and then moved on…

image

To this quiet corner, I baited this area earlier on today, there where a few bubbles coming up, which hopefully means carp and not nuisance fish.

image

I have made my final move today, into an area behind where I was fishing.  There where a number of carp crashing along the tree lined margin and with only 2 hours to go, this felt like the most likely area for a pick up.  I was expecting to see some fish on the top, as the sun has been out a lot more than I expected today.

Until next time
Richard

Trip No 59 Carp Fishing (2016)

I am back on the inland sea in search of a monster carp, which hides in this 128 acre Hampshire gravel pit.

image

I am tucked away in one of the bays, where the fish are known to move along the deep tree lined margins. As the wildlife here is overwhelming, I have baits with groundbait and chopped dark boilies, in an attempt to disguise my baited areas and I am using dark hook baits.

image

Both rod’s are along the tree lined margins to the right and left of me, on quite clear spots as the weed have not started to grow very much this year.

The alarm was sounding and the night had passed me by.

Until next time
Richard

Trip No 58 Carp Fishing (2016)

It’s been nearly a week since my last trip out.  There have been some bait issues that I needed to sort out (which I am not going to go into details about).

image

After walking around for an hour and scattering some sweetcorn into likely spots.  On my return to this one, I found that the corn had gone from the clear gravel spot.

I set up one rod on this quiet reedy corner of the lake.  Lowered down a small Godman Angling Pva bag filled with corn a groundbait mixed with a small amount of oil and a trimmed down yellow pop up.

After a few hours, it was time to head off and collect the kids from school.

Until next time
Richard

Trip No 57 Carp Fishing (2016)

I am on Holbrook Mill Pond for a social for the next couple of nights and after a good walk around (and a brew in the club house), we settled for the deeper end of the lake on a swim that I have not fished before.

image

With the lake looking stunning and fish everywhere, it was hard to pick the perfect swims.

image

But this end just felt more appealing to me.

My right-hand rod was flicked just of an snaggy area’s with a nice scum line.

image

The middle rod was over by the corner of and island as its an interception route.

image

And the third rod, was on the opposite side of the entrance to the end of the lake.

image

Drop just of the end of the bank.

image

The gap I am fishing has been filled with spod mix and a mix of 14/18mm boilies with 18mm Wafters fish over the top.  The snaggy rod has had the same treatment and hopefully the fish who are moving around the area, will be happy to go down and feed, as the nice hot day temperature will drop tonight.

image

Just stunning surroundings.
At around 1930, the right-hand rod was off and attached to a very hard fighting Holbrook carp.  It was not playing ball and held its ground, trying to get into the snags, until the hook pulled and the fish was free.

First first night resulted in a hook pull for me and a couple for Rob.  Not quite what I was hoping for, but a start I suppose, hopefully today will bring some carp my way.

image

The morning was uneventful, however as the wind picked up, pushing the scum down my end of the lake and the fish started to arrive.  By early afternoon I was feeling quite confident of a take this afternoon.  At around 2 pm, I was into my first hard fighting Holbrook fish, around the 15 lb mark.

image

A quick photo on the mat and she was safely returned.  I recast this rod and sat back for a couple of hours, until the right hand rod was off again and the same thing happen as the previous night, yep another hook pull.  Not Funny.

I was up first thing the next morning, after a very uneventful night, these fish are clearly not down here at night, however very much in the daytime.

image

With this in mind and a clear sky and the sun warming up the day.

I put some more bait out in the area’s I had observed the fish patrolling the day before.  Also flicked my baits on the spots with fresh washed out pop up on, sat back and had a brew.  Unfortunately, the weather changed and the wind picked up and the sun vanished.

image

I spotted some bubbling over one of the areas I was fishing at night.  With that I reeled in one of my rod’s, placed the bait over the top gently and walked back to my swim.  Within a couple of hours, the rod was away and attached to a very unhappy Holbrook Common.

image

16 lb 10 oz of stunning fish.

I was very hopefully that I may get another fish.  However, this was the only take of the day.

With the night coming in, I placed my baits back on the deeper water as a cold night was forecast.

image

A few down the lake and in the distance you can see the mill house.

The last night turned out the same as before with not a sign of Mr Carp and that was the end of my 3 night social.  It was very enjoyable and I can’t wait to come back soon.

Until next time
Richard

Trip No 56 Carp Fishing (2016)

It’s been sometime since I did a weekend and I was pleasantly surprised how many swims were free.

image

However, with a friend arriving tomorrow morning, I was mindful of my swim selection.  The fact was I was quite looking forward to a social and a few glasses of wine.  As luck would have it, the island was free and the wind was pushing nicely onto it.  I was quite suppressed it was still free.

image

After my last trip here and a couple of lost fish, I had to think hard about my approach to the swim.  Firstly, I was not to keen on fishing the same range, so after a lead around, I was quite happy with a nice silty area and I spombed out 2 kilo of boilies over a large area.  I had to be mindful of the swan and I placed two rod’s on this area, both with washed out  pop ups on different colours.

image

The first night was uneventful and a misty start to the day, amazingly the fish area showing signs of spawning, they are following each other around quite a lot this morning.

image

My friend arriving and a few glass of wine where consumed and that was the afternoon, carp were in full spawning mode .

I would normally head home when the fish start their game’s.  However, with no real knowledge of fish stocks, type of carp, it was a great opportunity to see a few good mirrors amongst all the commons.  By the evening they had calmed down a lot and with some rain forecast over night, I thought there could be a chance to pick a carp up, who had not joined the party.  But in the night they where off in full on spawning mode and we had no real chance.

image

A perfect morning and the fish where still going strong.

Time for food and dry every thing off, head home and leave the fish to their business.

Until next time
Richard
