Trip No 83 Carp Fishing (2016)

I am out for a 24 hr session this Saturday night.  I have all of the top lake to myself and with the strong winds pushing onto the daisy bank, there’s no other place to be.

The weather today is all over the place, one minute sunshine, the next strong winds and thunder and then back to sunshine.

Which means no looking at the lake and four storm poles and a view of the small bay.

I am fishing the same area as my last trip in the same swim and with both rod’s on the baited area (which is a couple of kilos of Spotted Fin Catalyst boilies mixed-up with pellet and soaked in Catalyst Food Dip).

Much to my surprise, the afternoon and evening pasted with out a fish, despite a couple showing themselves near the baited area.  I dropped off to sleep watching the lake and feeling confident that a fish would come my way over night.  Sure enough at about 4 am the left-hand rod was off and after a lot to mucking around in the margins, I had a lovely Common in the net.

26lb 1oz common

I was feeling quite confident that a few more fish would come my way and sat watching the lake with a brew.  By around 0630 this was not happening. Time to catch up on some sleep and I got back into the bag for a couple of hours.  I could hear a few fish crashing again to the right of me and fell asleep expecting to be woken by a take.  Unfortunately, this was not the case and by 10 am I needed to start packing up and head home.  Very happy with my results as I had not been on the lake for a good week or more.

Until next time

Richard

Trip No 82 Barbel Fishing (2016)

Despite feeling under the weather this week and being at home all day yesterday (and watching way too many episodes of my favourite TV show).  I thought the best medicine for me would be to get out and get some fresh air.  I must admit, I have not strayed far from a car park.  That said, I am confident in my swim choice and is always good to gain knowledge.

I am using two rod’s – I can’t help myself.  I am on a nice bend in the river and it screams out lots features.

We shall just have to see.

With no signs of any fish and the sun coming out, I took this opportunity to take a walk in a couple of areas that I had not looked in yet.

Until next time

Richard

Trip No 81 Barbel Fishing (2016)

After the last trip (where I has spotted some fish and had a few rig disasters) and dispite the weather, I just had to have another go in this swim

I have changed tactics and was using a cut down Catalyst boilies, as I was wondering if these fish are a bit cautious of big bits at the start of the season.

I was starting to wonder what I needed to do to catch a Barbel or even a Chub out of this section.  I had not had a problem before further up stream, which is where my old Syndicate was and as I was typing this, the rod knocked and I pulled round into a nice chub, not a Barbel, but a step forward and worth getting wet for.

Trip No 80 Barbel Fishing (2016)

I am out on the Hampshire Avon again today, after the Barbel.  I have found an area that has a good selection of features and swim choices.

My first spot gave me the opportunity to use 2 rod’s.  I must admit, this swim can easily handle two rod’s without interference from the other one.  I just can’t help myself and I always use two rods. After a couple of hours with no knocks, it was time to move on.

I found the perfect spot, with a few fish under the overhanging tree.  I spent the last few hours here and even had a few lines bites, but I just couldn’t pick a fish up.

Until next time

Trip No 79 Carp Fishing (2016)

I fancied a change for this Sunday night session and after arranging a social in a couple of weeks time on here, it got me thinking again about this place.  The seed was sown and here I am.

This place is just beautiful and so peaceful.

I have baited both my left and right hand margins with 1/2 kilo of Spotted Fin Catalyst boilies and flicked a small mesh bag over the top, filled with chopped boilies that have been soaked in the catalyst Food Dip.

Other than the rain, it was a very peaceful night, until the pack up time alarm sounded.

Until next time
