Trip No 75 Carp Fishing (2016)

After my sleepless trip the session before, I was out in the snags after some Meadow Lake carp.

As the weather was still overcast and would it be until around 1300 hrs and the forecast for the next day is looking very sunny.  I just had to get down there and have another go and within the hour, I was off and playing a very unhappy Mirror, it tipped the scales at 19 lb 6 oz.

As I had caught a fish so soon after arriving, I would stay in this swim.  Unfortunately, the next fish along was a bream.  This fish was unhooked and returned quickly and only had 45 minutes left before I needed to head home.  I flicked out another bag with chopped Spotted Fin boilies soaked in the food dip and hoped a carp would come along before home time.

Not this time

Until next time
Richard

Trip No 74 Carp Fishing (2016)

I am out on the Airfield lake for a quick over ‘nighter’ and I have gone down to the top part of the lake, which is deeper.

image

I have chosen a swim that gives me access to a long gravel island, in between two gaps that the carp use as a route though to the next part of the lake.  I am fishing at the bottom on the gravel shelf and have spombed out a kilo of chopped Catalyst boilies mixed-up with pellet and soaked in the catalyst Food Dip.

With the sky looking blacker and blacker with a pending thunder storm.  I was going to be in for a sleepless night and sure enough I was.  But lucky me, the rain stopped at 0545, just in time for pack up.

Unfortunately no fish, which may have been a good thing in a thunderstorm.

Until next time
Richard

Trip No 73 River Fishing (2016)

I am out on the Hampshire Avon for the first time of the new season.  Its my quest to finally catch an Avon Barbel.  This has become quite a challenge now as I have been after one for some years.  I have come quite close on a couple of occasions and even lost one. It doesn’t appear to be that hard for other angler’s, I must just be a little of the mark.

The area I am in, for a few hours today, is not far from where I lost one the other year.  There is a nice run just off the bank that I have baited with pellet soaked on salmon Oil, both rod’s are on 4 ft mono hook link and a wide gap hook with a spotted fin Catalyst boilie.  I have great confidence in these for my carp fishing and I feel it’s only a natural progress to use these for Barbel.  As I am sure confidence is half the battle, for me.

It was a very pleasant few hour’s out, with the over cast weather.  I was quite confident.

However no joy on the fish front today.

Until next time
Richard

Trip No 72 Carp Fishing (2016)

I have popped down the lake for a few hours this evening.  I can’t help myself after the last trip.  I am due to be on the river tomorrow but the river is in flood and very brown (I might still have to have a go).

Back in the same swim and the same tactics as before.

Washed Out Pop Ups

What carp could resist one of these gems?

The ducklings where about tonight.

I stayed until around 2230 and with no joy and the gates closing at 2300hrs, I headed home.

Until next time

Trip No 71 Carp Fishing (2016)

I am out again in the same swim as my last trip, in fact it’s the next day!

image

I have added a bit of corn to the mix, in a hope to tempt the carp to feed.  It’s been quite a slow start on the lake, I have been told.  The fish started to spawn last week, but never quite finished.  So I think they may be a bit moody.  I am hoping that the rain will help them to get their heads down for a few days before it warms up again.

At around 1130, my alarm beeped and the tip hooped round and I was attached to a very unhappy Common.  After a good battle, the fish was finally under control and at last in the net.  Time to breath and let the heart rate slow down and they say fishing is boring.  Try fishing in a small swim, 3 ft from the bank and 4 ft from your rod tip, it’s like an explosion of life, at the moment of a take.

22lb 4oz common

Another fish notch up to Spotted Fin The Catalyst boilies.

image

Change of swim for the last few hour’s.

Within fifteen minutes, I am off again, this time attached to a tench who just want give you a fight.  With the swim well and truly disturbed, I moved back to my original swim, as the fish where still around when I left yesterday.  There was a good chance of another take.

image

And an hour later and another mega fight with a couple of heart stopping moments, this beauty was in the net and tipping the scales at 29 lb 10 oz .
I was very happy with my 4 hour session today and well worth the effort.  Which included wet feet and soaked to the skin with all the heavy rain, as it’s impossible to set a brolly up.

Until next time
Richard
