Trip No 88 Carp Fishing (2016)

With all my stuff packed and ready to go for the night, my wife’s friend called at 1615 and asked if she would like to go to the theatre and see something.  With the weather looking perfect there was only one thing to do and yes.  I do fish quite a bit.  My next thought was do I fish the next day?  With the weather looking very sunny for the next day, I was hoping that the rain would colour the water and my snaggy swim would be perfect.

With only a couple more day trips available to me before the school holiday’s, I am back in my favourite one rod under the bushes swim.

With a bit of wind on the water, the conditions looked perfect.  A couple of handfuls of the Catalyst, and a small bag with a Natural Pop Ups – the trap was set.

After a couple of hours I was starting to wonder if I was going to blank again, when the rod hooped around and I was attached to a stunning Common that would not give up the fight.

26lb 6oz of stunning Common.

I nearly moved on to another swim, but housework was calling and I just may have the time again tomorrow.

Until next time

Richard

Trip No 87 Carp Fishing (2016)

With the family away for the weekend, I am out for 48 hrs.  The conditions are looking quite good for fishing, but not for the family on the beach.

Unfortunately for me there where a few other anglers with the same  idea and the area I had hoped to get (right in the face of the wind), was already taken by three anglers.  This covered quiet a vast area and dominated the windy bank.  As I didn’t fancy much else, I headed for the back of the wind and a tree lined bank, that the fish patrol along.  One rod was along there and the other was out on open water at the bottom of a nice drop off.  Both rods had a good helping of Catalyst boilies and I was fishing both rods on Natural pop ups, with small mesh bag’s of chopped boilies soaked in food dip.

The first night past without any action, but as this swim had not been fished for sometime, I thought this may happen.  I need to stay focused on the first full day and my second night.

By 3 pm with still no signs of any carp and with a storm starting to blow through, I had to make a decision move or stay.  After a couple of hours of thinking and going over my options, I felt that I would stay and top the swim up with the remaining bait that I had.  At about 11 pm I had my first take of a small common around the 11 lb mark.  After I re-baited, I lay on my bed and drifted off to sleep, listening to carp crashing about.  I was feeling that my choice to stay was the right one and by 8 am, I had had 5 fish and two smaller ones.

21 lb 6 oz common

17 lb 1 oz mirror (spot the rain drops!)

And another 18 lb 2 oz common + a couple of low doubles.

I fell asleep again around 8 am, the wind and rain was pouring down.  At noon, I was woken by another small carp, who slipped the hook that night.  By then the weather was broken cloud and sunshine.  I was still feeling the buzz of the night and a lot less sleepy and the odd fish was still crashing.  I thought I would give it a bit longer .

And a nice bit of sunshine to dry my kit out.

I stayed on until around 5 pm, but no more carp graced my net.

Until next time

Richard

Trip No 86 Carp Fishing (2016)

I am out in the snag swims today for a little while and I am armed with one rod only with a a bucket of Spotted Fin Catalyst boilies and some Washed Out Pop Ups .

I had a tench at around 1015 and I had managed to get it unhooked and returned without that much fuss.  I opted not to move swim but by 1130 I had yet another one, who made more fuss.  I had a friend further down the valley on another lake and thought I would pay him a visit and a quick catch up.

Until next time

Trip No 85 Barbel Fishing (2016)

Out again on the Avon for a few hours today – may be not the right conditions, but I am fishing, which is always a plus.

Using two rod’s, as I just can’t help myself.  Both are in the margins, with chopped down Catalyst boilies and a few dropped down in a bait dropper.

I only landed a few chub today and I was trying to avoid these today.

Until next time

Richard

Trip No 84 Barbel Fishing (2016)

I have come out on the river for a good look around today, but can’t help bringing the rod’s.  This is lucky as the weather has turned from sunshine to rain and not the best conditions for fish spotting.  So I settled for a nice area with a clear patches of gravel just over the reed’s.

And I flicked out a couple of baits for the last two hours before school collection time.

The perfect solution for forgetting your cup.  First empty out ground bait, then wash in river, dry off and you have the perfect cup.

Until next time

Richard
