Trip No 98 Barbel Fishing (2016)

With September fast approaching and my annual two weeks away.  It struck me this week, I had been neglecting the river somewhat.

My time is also limited to nights during the school holiday’s. I asked the wife, if I could go out Saturday afternoon and evening and here I am.

After a good stomp around for an hour or two and no real signs of fish.  The cloud had broken not long after I arrived and a nice sunny afternoon was looming.  I settled down to a nice sweeping bead in the river, which looked quite inviting.  I would be using two rod’s both on Catalyst boilies, with mesh bag’s filled with broken boilies and pellets.  These had been soaking in Salmon Oil for the past 3 days and I would be firing out more bait as the evening progressed.

Unfortunately, with the afternoon and early evening turning very hot and sunny, I felt my only option would be staying late.  But due to family commitments the next day, I felt it was best head home after another walk round the river.

Until next time

Richard

Trip No 97 Carp Fishing (2016)

I am out for a quick over night trip this week.  The wind is pushing nicely into a small corner of the lake, I have chosen to go back in the same swim as my last week’s mid week trip.

However, this time I will be fishing closer to the bank, as I felt last time the fish where moving along the bank and giving me lots of liners.

I catapult 4 pouch fulls of Catalyst boilies out over each spot and made up a small pva bag filled with catalyst Pellets.  Natural Pop Ups were on one rod and a wafter on the other. The night started with even more liners than before and I ended up putting back leads on, which if I am honest, I am not a great fan of. This helped a bit and at around 3 am I had my one and only take, in the form of a low double.

The liners carried on most of the night, which I can only put down to the large head of big roach on here.

Until next time

Richard

Trip No 96 Carp Fishing

This weekend is part 2 of taking the kids fishing and its the youngest one’s turn.  The forecast is predicting a lot warmer and no real wind.  It may be a be hard going on the Carp front, as the swim selection is based around the size if the swim and where the Roach & Rudd will be and how easy access it is for the kids.  Both will be here for the day on Friday, before the wife collects the eldest after work.

We set up in the daisy field swim, which is my youngest daughter favourite spot.  The wind was pushing onto this back, it would make things cooler and a good possibility of a Carp or two, as there where a few showing close by.

I found two nice silty channels to fish and spomd out a mix catalyst boilies, pellets.  I put a wafter on one rod and a yellow dumbell pop on the other.  I then set about doing a spot of Rudd fishing with the kids, which they loved.  Between them, they had bucket loads and I certainly needed a rest after an hour of baiting up rods and unhooking fish.

The first night passed with out any action on the Carp front and we set about catching more Roach etc. She was quite happy playing around the swim. However, the day was getting hotter and being bored of catching so many fish, we thought we would go home in the afternoon.  At some point during the morning’s float fishing, I had a take which turned out to be a heavy liner.

Until next time

Trip 95 Carp Fishing (2016)

This trip is with my eldest and after she got bored of catch Rudd the other day, she was after some bigger fish.

I set up both rods for her, we were going after the carp on the surface.  To make things simpler, I used a cut down Catalyst Natural Pop Up on a zig rig setup.I then catapulted loads of dog biscuits, on this lovely little lake, the carp go mad for them.

And after our 3 hours, she had lost one and banked 3, which was fantastic, she just loved it.

She can’t wait for next time.  Which is tomorrow, as it’s my youngest’s turn for a weekend out with Daddy and as we go first thing in the morning, the eldest with be after the Rudd again.

Until next time.

Trip No 94 Carp Fishing (2016)

With the weather looking perfect there was only one thing to do and that was to going fishing for the night. There was a strong S/W blowing, with a few showers passing through over night.

I set my self up in one of the lesser fished swims, as an interception route for the carp moving to their favourite corner (when there is a strong wind blowing). I spombed out a kilo of Catalyst boilies, flicked a pop and a wafter out.  I then settled down for a wet and blowy night.

I heard a couple of fish in the night, but only managed a low double.  There where a few showing as I was packing up, which can be a bit frustrating.  But knowledge was gained, that I was in the right area and may be next time, the bigger fish will be along.

Until next time

Richard
