Trip 52 Carp Fishing 2017

With the temperatures getting down to something a bit more manageable, I am out on the lake again.  There is a nice S/W wind blowing and I have arranged to meet up with a friend, so this is going to be a bit of a social.  We have picked a nice area of the lake which gives us access to two separate areas of the lake.  My swim has the wind directly blowing into my face and a good few carp are showing in this area.  I am feeling very confident about bagging a few.  My friend’s swim was directly behind me so we could meet in the middle for a chat.

I am still on the same tactics as before as I see no reason to change over yet.

The night was pretty much a non event.  I did lose a small fish, with a hook pull.  This was down to me just bullying the fish out from under a tree to the right of me.  I think I was a bit to hard on its fourth trip of going under it.

The weather this morning is still perfect – nice breeze, some rain in the air and a few fish crashing about.  By midday and still no fish, it was a time for a rethink of my bait positioning.  There was nothing wrong with the right hand rod, it had produced a take and it had done on my previous trip.  However, the rod that was in the big area for over 24 hrs had not had a touch and was therefore clearly in the wrong spot.  I had observed fish to the right of me and flicked a marker round in the area and found a very nice drop off to fish.  I switched the rod over and placed a bait on this spot with a few spombs of Catalyst boilies and pellet mix.

I settled down into the afternoon and evening.  My friend had made a very nice Chicken Tikka, we moved our chairs into the middle point between swims and we settled down for a glass of wine or two, we needed back to our swims proper by 8 pm for hopefully the evening feed.  By 2115 I had a take which produced a nice 22 lb+ Common.

That will do me nicely.

The night was completely dead on the fish front again, much to my surprise.  My friend ended up with 3 fish in the end up to a 17 lber, which he was happy with.  I needed to be off by noon time, so I was going to take a walk down the river, looking for the carp again as well as suitable areas to fish for them.  There was going to be a good bit of sunshine about this afternoon.

Until next time

Richard

Trip 51 Carp Fishing- 2017

  • This trip is the start of my campaign to catch a nice big lump out of the Hampshire Avon.  With this in mind, I headed to the area where I have seen them before and have tried this area a few times before (without a great deal of success), location appears not to be the issue for me, it’s finding their feeding spots and their everyday patrol route.  This is time consuming and I clearly need to put more effort into that part of the challenge. The section I found them in regularly is about 200 meters long and consists of many features; form pads, reed, wide open areas and plenty of weed. It’s certainly going to be a challenge and I also can’t ignore other stretches of the river.  As it’s the 16th June, it would be rude not to wet a line today.

I tried a couple of likely spots on the way back down river.  I had put some bait out on the way up stream, other than one Carp, load of face and a couple of Chub that’s all I spotted.  However, I did find some very interesting areas that need further investigation.

I will be back soon for another look around.

Until next time

Richard

Trip 50 – Carp Fishing- 2017

After a few very hard days out gardening, I was glad to get down the lake and find a nice cool breeze blowing.  I was not really sure where to fish, even after a good look round the complex, there were fish in most area’s of the lake and I was unable to pin point any of the larger fish.

I ended up settling for this swim, I just felt the love for it a bit more than any other.

With a couple of spots sorted out, a few pouches of Catalyst boilies and a bag over the top with a FW Masala Pops ups on both rod’s.  I am starting to get very hooked on these FW pop ups as they have done me good on a couple of 30’s and under 20’s this year.

Unfortunately, the night resulted in one lost fish which made it to the margin trees and dumped the hook.

Until next time

Regards Richard

Trip 49 Carp Fishing- 2017

This trip is all about my eldest daughter, she has been asking for me to take her fishing again for sometime.  The weather has been a bit to extreme for her.  However, this weekend was looking better with just a strong S/W blowing and none of this rain.  She loves her Roach fishing.

My swim selection was based on the best area for her being able to cast and the wind.  There was enough room to squeeze my rods out without getting them in the way.

This was certainly the best spot, quickly set up home and got my rods on a spot which I had fished before.  I put a good load of Catalyst boilies with two bags over the top, baited with pop ups, one a Masala and the other a natural one.  I was all done and time to get the float Tackle sorted with some bait in the swim, it was Catalyst & Betafin micro pellets to get the small fish on the munch.

And we settled down to 24 hrs of fishing.

The daughter end up with two Rudd which was quite a hard job to get them going.  I blanked which I have not for sometime, even though the swim choice was not the best for the Carp and solely aimed at catching Roach and Rudd for my daughter, I was hoping for at least one Carp.

Until next time

Richard

Trip 48 Carp Fishing- 2017

The school holiday’s are over and a fantastic time away camping in Wales had been had.  I have got the fishing hat back on again.  It’s only about 10 days away from the river’s being open again and a new adventure this year.  I am going to be putting a lot of effort into catch some Hampshire Avon carp.

With a good old storm blowing through over the past couple of days (the winds are still gusting up to 30 mph), I felt I just had to be on the windward bank, despite the problem of getting the brolly up, it had to be worth the effort.

With the brolly facing away from the lake, I was set up.  I had a nice view up into the New Forest.

The rod were placed on a couple of my new spots – with my normal bag set up and a few baits chucked out in the area, to draw the fish in.

The night was mostly peaceful, other than the wind, I was lying in the my bag watching the sun come up over the forest.

The right-hand rod belted off, as they do in this lake due to the shallowness.  I got the fish into the back quite easily and I was thinking it was a very low double.  This was until it was under the rod tip and burst in to life and proceeded to give me a good run around until it was finally in the net.

It was a bit fresh out this morning.

Until next time

Richard
