Trip 57 – Carp Fishing- 2017

My car had a puncture which needed fixing first thing on the Monday morning, so I was down to only two day trips this week.  This week I wanted to look at the river and I was also still after a carp from the margin swim I am a bit obsessed with.  As the weather was not too hot, I found myself tucked up in there today.

I sorted out the rod, put on a 15mm natural pop up, made up a bag of chopped boilies and a mix of catalyst pellets and lowered down on to the spot.

A friendly swan called by and I sat back (and waited) and enjoyed the view.

Had few more visitors.  With less than an hour before I was due to be off, I had only had a couple of Tench, this was a real pain.  The wind had died down and you could feel the heat in the air , so could the carp.  More and more of them were cruising around on the top.

Think I will be on the river for my next trip, hunting for the Carp as part of my quest to bag a lump from the Hampshire Avon.

Until next time

Richard

Trip 56 Carp Fishing- 2017

With the conditions just perfect for carp fishing, I just had to get out for a quick over nighter.  I headed back to the area I had been fishing the previous time, but there was another angler giving it a go there.  So I headed over to the other point swim to approach the fish from a different angle.  I had thought on the way down here that it just may be a better option.

I had made one change to my approach this time, instead of both rod’s on pop ups.  I had switched over to a 15 mm Catalyst Wafters, as last year the fished moved off pop ups onto bottom type baits as the season progressed.

With the sun setting, I got under my bed chair cover and laid there just watching last light arrive and drifted off to sleep.  It turned out to be quite a long sleep, as the fish where clearly not playing the game.  Not a single bleep in the night, I was very shocked and a bit dumbfounded as to what went wrong.  The fish must have moved out of this area since my last trip.  But where to? is the big question.  An early reel in and a look round the lake before heading home was clearly in order.

It looked the perfect spot and the conditions where looking good.

Until next time

Trip 55 Carp Fishing- 2017

I was back down the lake, after my house husband bit, this evening and heading for a particular spot I had observed the carp in over the weekend.  I fancied my chances of bagging one.

With I quick lead about, I located the areas of interest, flicked a bag over both and a few pouch fulls of Catalyst boilies around both area.  I then tucked myself under the brolly to dry out a bit.  Well, despite my best efforts to avoid the carp getting anywhere near the snagy tree lined margins, the two takes I had decided to make it over there.  Carp 2 Richard 0.  Every time I got a take I recast more to the left away from this bank, on my last go, I must have been too far over and never got another fish and boy did it rain last night, it was none stop, must say we certainly need it.

Until next time

Trip 54 Carp Fishing- 2017

With the prospect of thunderstorms today, I just didn’t fancy being out on the river in open ground.  So, after Mr Tench put a stop to my margin trip at the weekend, I felt like this maybe my best option for a few hour’s today.

With a mesh bag made up of chopped Catalyst boilies, a bit of pellet and a FW Masala pop up on.  I lowered the bait into the spot and settled back – unfortunately under the brolly as it had started to rain, don’t really like using the brolly as I am sure Mr Carp will be aware of the change to their environment.  Lucky for me it was only a shower.  The day was warming up and the rain was going away but was due to return an hour before I was due off.  The fish were on the top of the water again and clearly not interested in feeding at the bottom.  It time to head home a do my house husband bit before I am back on the bank again tonight.

Until next time

Trip 53 Carp Fishing- 2017

I had finished my two night trip with my friend and my thoughts turned to the river.  I was going to have a look at the river, I just never feel comfortable leaving that much tackle in my car for too long.  So, I headed off down the other lake, this opened up again on the 16th June, to have a play in my favourite margin spots.

If there was one swim I had to choose to fish for the rest of my life, it would be this one.

With a small mesh bag filled with broken Catalyst boilies with some pellets mixed in and a natural pop up, I lowered the bait into the spot and sat back.  There were a few fish cruising by, I just need one of them to drop down and away we would be.  It took over 3 hrs for a fish to pick up the bait, unfortunately it turned out to be a Tench.

Until next time
