Trip 62 Carp Fishing- 2017

After spotting some fish over the area on my last over nighter, I was hoping they may still be here.

With a small change in tactics (by uping the baiting levels), which is something I had done well in the past on this lake. I was hoping to change my run of blanks, it’s always best to only change one thing at a time, unless you are a 100% certain of the issue. A little tweak here and there never does any harm. After finding a nice hard spot, with the marker rod, I leaded about until I was happy with the area. I then spombed out a kilo of a mix of 8mm Catalyst pellets and a mix of Boilies sizes. Within the hour I had seen a couple of fish show in this area, fingers crossed.

My ducklings paid me a visit over here.

Well another blank night passed me by again. I was another completely surprised about this, the carp where close by again but obviously not close enough. The guy in the next swim down also had the same thing happen to him, better get that thinking cap on.

Trip 61 – Carp Fishing- 2017

Back in my favourite margin spots today and hopefully no Tench and a Carp will grace my net.

Same tactics as before. With a small mesh bag loaded with broken catalyst boilies, a mix of catalyst pellets and a fruit zing pop up.

They are certainly getting bigger

I had a visitation from a swan and the ever getting bigger ducklings. However, no visit from Mr Tench or Mr Carp. This was certainly a surprise and perhaps a rethink on this swim is needed. Time to investigate another swim but with the school holiday’s only a week away and no day trips from me, I may just leave it until September.

Trip 60 – Carp Fishing- 2017

After blanking on my over-nighter, going home and doing the school run, I was back down the lake for a few more hours. I just couldn’t ignore these conditions.

I was hoping to get a few hours in, in my favourite margin spots, however with the weather as it was I felt it more beneficial to be in this spot. If I had gone there I would have gotten a fair good soaking. After about 2 hrs of watching carp cruise over my baited stop, my favourite Mr Tench picked up the hook bait! What is it with me and Tench. I have had more in the last two week’s than the previous three year’s!

Just hoping a Carp picks it up next time. unfortunately not today.

Trip 59 – Carp Fishing – 2017

Now that the whole complex is open (including the river), it gets a bit hard to choose. I try and stay for nights on this lake until later on in the year but tonight I could not help myself. This will teach me to take a quick drive round on my way down to the other lake. I was only going to stick a handful of Boilies in my margin swim for tomorrow and I found myself staying here.

Sometimes you just have to.

One bait is in the corner with a nice big Spotted Fin Pva bag on, full of goodies and a natural pop up. The other is along the margin tree line, about 20 yards off the bank – otherwise I wouldn’t stand a chance of getting any fish in the net.

The morning arrived and the night passed with a load of fish in the area, I just couldn’t get them to get their heads down.

Making every minute count but still no joy. It was time to head home, do the school run and get myself back down the lake. At least this will give me some time to process last night’s lack of action.

Trip 58 Carp Fishing- 2017

With a break in the heatwave we’ve been having. The wind was picking up and there was even some cloud cover. I very nearly stayed at home this weekend but as we all know, effort equals rewards. I just felt the need to be on the bank. I can do 2 nights but I am not sure yet if I will, I feel I am in the right spot and the conditions are in my favour. The weather forecasters have said there will be a swing in the wind, we shall just have to see tomorrow.

What a view! My left hand rod is an underarm cast, away to the left on a gully which runs past the swim and round the corner into a small bay area. I have not baited this spot, I am just fishing with a big bag of pellet, broken boilies and a mix of spotted fin liquids. I have done this as I feel it’s more of a patrol route than a feeding area. The other rod is 30/40 yards out on the bottom of the margin self just into the silt bed.

My mix of broken boilies and mix sized pellets – all soaked in Minamino & Betafin. This rod I am fishing a Wafters over, however the margin rod has a Natural Pop Ups on.

Well, the night past with no action what so ever. This was a big surprise, there were plenty of fish crashing around in the bay to the left of me. Mr & Mrs Carp were certainly not moving out into the main body of the lake. I was left scratching my head at this point, what to do next?.

I have the swim until around 1130 and reeled in. I looked around the complex and decided to head home. I was going to have some fun in the garden with the kid’s and have a BBQ instead.
