Trip 67 Carp Fishing- 2017

I am out for 48 hrs this weekend for a social with a friend and the conditions are looking spot on.  A nice bit of wind and rain pushing though over the next 24 hrs, this should stir them up.

We have gone for a swim on the back of the wind for a change, mainly because this is the deeper part of the lake.  We both feel this will give us the best opportunity to both catch fish.

Well, the first night didn’t go according to plan – mostly down to me, a small lapse of concentration and tiny lack of attention to the detail, as I thought I had a small bit of putty on my pop up rig.  However that was not the case and you guest it, I was fishing 7 inches off the bottom, oops.  One rod wasted for that night, the other rod was perfect but still no fish.

After a brew with my friend, who hadn’t suffered the same problem as me.  He had banked four low double figured Carp, all on bottom baits and had a good laugh at me.  He did tell me that there were plenty of fish in my swim over night.  Attention to detail catches the fish.

With another band of rain moving across the county around lunchtime, it was time to mix up some more groundbait balls for me to Spomb out.

With a mix of groundbait, 8mm Catalyst pellets, catalyst boilies, it was Spombing time and a good opportunity to test out the Fox Warrior s&m rod, which Tackle Fanatics had sent me to put it through it’s paces.

Nice action shot, thanks to my friend (and his camera/video work).  Plenty of action shots for me to play with.

I changed over to a 22 mm Catalyst bottom baits and a 18 mm Wafter.  I flicked a couple of bags back out onto my spots, let’s hope the carp move onto my baits this afternoon or through the night.

Another very wet and rainy night had passed by with no fish for me again.  I can’t believe it, reports from around the lake by other anglers the lake is fishing very slow and quite hard at the moment.  I normally don’t find this, I will just put it down to bad luck.  I have also not been here for a month and have lost touch a bit with the lake.

Very pleasant morning and a nice sunny day coming, which is nice after all that rain.

Until next time

Richard

Trip 66 Carp Fishing- 2017

Quick over nighter time again, the kids are on their Summer break, so it’s nights only for me (with the exception of the odd weekend if I am lucky).  I normally drive round the lake the same way every time and this time I didn’t.  The first swim I checked out, 2 fish immediately over a spot one of the Syndicate members told me about the other week.  So I sat down on the edge of the swim for a couple of minutes and sure enough there was another one.  Choice made. With a few Spombs of a mix of catalyst pellets and boilies over the spot, I was happy.  I flicked a pop & a wafters out there to keep my options open.Bit shocked by the lack of fish over night, given all the fish I saw when I arrived and later on on the evening.  I can’t believe I also didn’t catch any Bream as I was getting plenty of liners.  The only conclusion is that the fish were closer in than I first thought, hence the liners and no takes.  I would’ve thought that the fish would have moved onto the bait, however if there was still a good pile from the weekend that could account for it.

With heavy rain on the way I was getting the kit in the car earlier than normal.

Until next time

Richard

Trip 65 Carp Fishing- 2017

It’s my last trip before nearly a week’s break (which as you know is a long time away from the bank for me). But my little girl is going to be 10 and you have to celebrate that.

When I arrived down the lake at about 7 pm, I had the pick of the swims (well all but one).  I very nearly jumped into a swim another Syndicate member had 5 out of the other night.  They were up to 35 lb.  The wind was really pushing down there, however I am not a fan of jumping in behind people, well knowingly any way.  It can back fire on you quite easily.

So, I headed to an area where I had spotted some fish the other week.  On my last trip, only two days ago, I did see a large fish roll over the corner of this swim.  This just had to be worth a go.

One rod was dropped about 15 ft off the bank with a large bag filled with boilies, pellet and a load of my liquid mix.  Then a few handfuls of boilies and pellet over the top.  The other rod was fished in a nice hard area about 30/40 yards off the bank.

I was just dropping off, when the right hand rod had a couple of bleeps, I quickly shone the touch on the rod, the bobbin was up the top, tilting towards the buzzer and holding there.  I quickly got my boots on and let out a bit of line.  This tightened up instantly, there was a fish on and it was kiting left.  I pulled into the fish and pumped it in to the margins, where it proceeded to give me the run around for about 10 minutes and finally it was in the net.

And what a fish, a 25 lb 6 oz of stunning Common.  Sorry about the knees!

My word, the Canadian Geese are annoying at the moment.  No more Carp, which was a shame.  I did hear a couple of them jump in the night to my left and had a couple liners, however that was it.

Until next time

Trip 64 Carp Fishing- 2017

With my last day trip over for sometime (unless I can convince one of my daughter’s to come with me), as the school holiday’s start soon.  I have been and done my school run bit and I am back down the lake.  With a bit of luck the wind, rain, thunder will have spurned them on and with some luck on my side I will avoid any more Tench.  Its not too much of a problem when I am out for 12 hours or more, it’s the sort day trips I do, is when I don’t need them.

Rods out and waiting for the storm to pass.

The sunshine is breaking though now and with a carp already spotted, I am hopeful as always.

WOW that was a storm and a half with no sleep.

Did manage this beauty.  Well it’s time to pack up, head home and I am sure an early night is coming later tonight.

Until next time

Trip 63 Carp Fishing- 2017

With this being the last day trip I will get over the school holiday’s.  I was out with one rod again.  After a look in the other spots I fancied giving a go, I found myself in here again, just can’t keep away.

I lowered my bag down into my normal spot, sat back and just hopped this was going to be my day.  The conditions were better than I had hoped for, so we shall just have to see how it pans out.

Relaxing and hoping that a Carp will find my bait before another Tench finds it!

Three of them today.  They certainly love the Catalyst Boilies and pellet.  Well that was it.

Until next time.
