Trip 72 Carp Fishing- 2017

Is it ever going to stop raining in August for more than two days?  I do hope so, as part of the annual family two week holiday is in Wales and the wife not very keen on this camping game.  We may just end up in a cottage, somewhere or even two week’s doing day trips around Hampshire & Dorset.

After looking at the forecast and the fish I had heard in the night the last time.  I was extremely keen to get back into this swim.  I am very confident that the fish are in this area and for some reason or another this swim has not been fished that much this year.

I had my girls with me for a few hour’s and they loved sitting on the bivvy with the door open at the top.

As I had put some bait out before I left the other morning.  I simply clipped up a flicked the baits out onto those spots and Spombed some bait over the top. By the time I had done all this, the rain arrived.  This was perfect timing and one of the reason the girls came with me was to avoid another wet set up.  I ended up with an angler to my right, way out on the island and also one to my left on the other island, which I though could be a help to push the fish over my way.

My rainy view

After the wife had collected the kids, I settled down to a rainy night. watched a few things on Netflix and then dropped off to sleep.  All that happened in the night was a load of liners, this kept me on edge for a take and the man on the island had a bad cough oh and the geese were behind me.  This resulted in a very sleepy Richard in the morning.

I re-baited the left hand around at first light, as I had convinced myself that the bait must have gone.  Nope, still on there, I was amazed that I had no fish at this point.  I drifted off to sleep again, only to be woken by a take, this was a 11 lb ish Common who gave me the run around for its size.  It’s the tails on these carp, they are little pocket rockets.

I re-baited around 11 am with a few Spombs of pellet and groundbait-mix, with a few broken catalyst boilies and fresh bottom baits.  I wanted to let the swim settle down for the day and coming night with no more bait being put out unless I had a few more fish.

As the sun was setting on my last night,  I had totalled 5 five all about 12 lb.  I think I am trying out the Hutchy bait pyramid effect, trouble is I will be at home by the time the big fish arrive.

This little greedy pig, picked up a 22mm Catalyst  bottom bait.

I did have a good day with the camera.

Visit —  My Photography website

I managed to get a few action shots, a good few wildlife photos and I bit more video footage.  I am getting on great with the Fox Warrior 22ft 3.25tc rod’s, that I have been sent by Tackle Fanatics and the warrior landing net is finally getting a good test as well.

The night was full of sleep and shooting stars, I think the fish were watching as well.  Not a sniff until around 7 am, just after I had taken a few photos of a kingfisher sitting on the rods.

Another hard fighting airfield lake carp.

The biggest of the trip, think I may be back in this swim soon.  I feel there is defiantly fish here and I am sure there will be a lump about amongst them.

It’s pack up time and a very pleasant day for a walk in the New Forest with the family.

Until next time

Richard

Trip 71 Carp Fishing- 2017

I am not sure if it’s ever going to stop raining in August, its certainly been a bit wet

Before I headed home last time, I had a good look around the lake and did a spot of markering to test out the Fox Warrior + S&M rod for its marker float capability.  I must say I was very impressed and the stiffness will certainly pick out the gravel from the silt, which on this lake is a crucial part of it.

On my wondering, I spotted a few fish in this area and I flicked the rod out on these areas.  There were some very nice silty gullies.  With a quick walk back to the car to get some catalyst boilies, to fire out into the general area before I left for home.

It was nice to get a sunset of sorts.  The swim was free as I drove down the track and unbelievably a nice fish rolled on one of the spots I fancied.  Look no further I thought.  The marker flicked out, bang on the spot.  I clipped up and flicked a bag out on to the spots with four small pouch-fulls of boilies over the top.  Both rod’s were on 22m Catalyst bottom bait soaked in the Finamino Bait soak (just to give an edge on the other baits in the area), camp was already up as it was still raining, mind you a lot less than it had been.

That will do, first take on the right hand rod and before 2300 another bag was tied up and put back on the spot.

Unfortunately, that was the only fish of the night.

Stunning morning.

Until next time.

Richard

Trip 70 Carp Fishing – 2017

After see plenty of fish on Friday morning out to my right, as I was packing up,  After having a nice 20 lb Carp, I felt that the rest of my bait just had to be put along that area (between me and two swims down).  When I arrived back down the lake around 0930 Saturday morning, I was amazed to see so many fish crashing about over the area I had baited.  With that, my friend and I dropped into the same swims as last weekend.

And I lightly topped up the swim with some Catalyst boilies and a groundbait mix.

Then the rain came.

It was not long before my friend had one on the bank.

18lb Common

He had gone for a different tactic to me as he was using 22m Catalyst bottom bait and a stringer with 5 baits on it.  We settled down to a very pleasant evening, once the heavy rain showers had passed.  The night was very peaceful for me with not a bleep, until about 0630 when the right hand rod screamed off (as they always do in here), with absolutely no warning.  It was a nice Common around the 11 lb mark who had woken me up.  I recast, got the kettle on for a brew and watched as the day unfolded.

What a stunning start to the day

Lucky Shot

The deer were on the far bank again and this time in the sunshine.

I gave it until around lunchtime, had a quick look around and then headed home.

Until next time

Trip 69 Carp Fishing- 2017

I am out for another mid week over nighter.  When I arrived there was only one other angler on the lake – not bad for a 56 acres.

I had a good look around as usual and even flicked about with the marker rod in a couple of swims.  I just couldn’t get a feel for anywhere.  Then I spotted a couple of fish showing along this bank.  So I quickly jumped in the car and went around the other side.  Sure enough, there were a couple more topping along here – decision made.  With the spots already in my note book, I flicked a lead out to double check and yes they still felt good.  With that, I made up two bags and put them on to the spots, with five spombs over each.  There was also a mix of catalyst Pellets and boilies over the top for good measure.

Time for a brew, watch the sun go down and a few more Carp showed themselves.

I drifted off to sleep, only to be woken at midnight, my car alarm was going off for absolutely no reason that I could find.  Perhaps a deer walked by.  Could I get back to sleep after that?  Nope, it took me hours.  Another alarm went off, this time it was the left hand rod, this was on the bottom of the margin shelf.  The fish gave me the right run around and tried to get in the overhanging bushes to my left, more times than I care to remember.  Finally it slipped over the cord.

20lb on the dot

That will do nicely.  I put a fresh bait on and another small mesh bag.  I put the rod back on the spot as I had a couple of hours left to go – you just never know.  Well other than the swan taking both rods out, that was it for the night.

Spotted these over the far side of the lake this morning.

Trip 68 Carp Fishing- 2017

After seeing the Carp in this area at the weekend and looking around other areas, I just didn’t feel the love for anywhere else.

As I knew there are a few hidden obstructions out in front of another swim.  This would have given me better spots to fish but a 90% chance of losing the fish!  I am not prepared to do as fish welfare is paramount to me.  I fished this swim and baited across the entrance to the bay, placed my bait in the middle where the most boilies had been put.  I then found a nice area along the drop off in front of me, I felt the fish could also access the bay along this bank.  I was fishing just off the gravel shelf into the silt area.  I also baited this spot with  Catalyst Boilies and  Betafin pellets.

About 3 am, the left hand rod burst into life and I was away with my first Carp on my new rod’s (I also christened the Fox Warrior landing net, which performed very well) and a nice 12 lb Common was in the net.  No Photography’s as the mosquitoes where bugging me way too much.  The fish was safety returned, flicked out a bag on to the same spot and tucked myself up in the bag.

That was the only action in the night and a quick pack up in the morning to avoid the on coming rain, I was all home safe and dry by 7 am.

Until next time

Richard
