Trip 101 Carp Fishing- 2017

After a very enjoyable few hours the other day and still feeling not 100%, I headed off down the lake. I’m not too sure what I will do or how long I will fish for.  I took my normal route around the lake and stopped at a few swims.  I really only fancied the one swim on the bank which everyone opposite was casting across to.  Don’t get me wrong they were nowhere near where I would be putting my baits.  I just didn’t fancy putting more pressure on that side of the lake and the other possibility would be facing another angler across the lake (some distance away).  I just like my own area, undisturbed with a pleasant view (rather than waving at a fellow angler across the lake!).  I looked in another areas but then thought, I will be back in the week when it will be peaceful and less pressured.  As I drove down the causeway between the smaller lake which contains fish up to just under 30 lbs, it was completely empty and always is.  I thought why not fish there and have a lake to myself?  I may even catch a few, why would you not.

I picked the swim that gave me the best view and access to cast anywhere.  I filled up a couple of bags with Betafin Pellets, broken Catalyst boilies and a mix of Minamino & Betafin liquids.  I flicked them out to a couple of likely spots, as I was planning on baiting up after dark, these fish really show themselves then.

I had a few bleeps through the afternoon on the left had rod and it finally rattled off to a small, but very pretty common.

With that rod recast, I settled down to formulate a plan for my spots tonight but by 7 pm there had not been a single sign of a single fish, so I stuck some bait out over the area I was fishing and that would have to do.

There was a stunning sunset tonight over the lake.  It was very nice as it had been mostly a very grey day, until then.

Well, my trip got turned upside down around 1 am.  I had a call from my dad, my mum was in hospital.  The gear packed away sharpish and I was off to Wales for the next few day’s.

Until next time.

Richard

About richardhandel

I would like to give a brief snap shot of my life and introduce myself; My name is Richard Handel and was born in 1965 in Suffolk. I have worked as a UK Operation & Intermodule Manager for a shipping company. I live in Hampshire now and am married with 2 young children, both girls so I am a bit outnumbered even the cat is a girl! I have been fishing since I was about 7 years old. I started on small local rivers in Suffolk, then moved onto gravel pits and then carp fishing. My personal best is a 39.08 mirror, over recent years I have started river fishing again, on the Hampshire Avon, this is a nice break from the carp lakes. My life has turned a big corner this year, the company I was working for relocated their Operation centre to Estonia. I was offered a job at the head office in London. This would have meant a 5 day commute and working in Stratford. As a family, we did not fancy this, as I would hardly spend any time with the children (and the Mrs). So after 22.5 years, I was given a nice redundancy package and with my wife is working full time. I became the house husband. This has meant a complete turn around in my fishing, as I can pick and choose when I go. I have found a splendid new syndicate to fish this year, which includes 5 lakes and some 8 miles of river with only 150 members. It's an amazing change to the way I am able to fish. I am now trying to start my own tackle business and make a bit of a name for myself in the world of fishing, as I have retired from real work. Richard
