Trip 45 Carp Fishing (2016)

I am out for 48 hrs+ this week.  We have had a nice long weekend away with the family and lucky me has the last few day’s out fishing before the kid’s go back to school.

image

Both rod’s are being fished up against the tree line.  The fish appear to be patrolling along here and featuring out into open water.  I have double up with a friend for a bit of a social and he is fishing into the open water area.

image

The perfect tree lined margins and hopefully a few fish.

With a great deal of high hopes for the night, I only had one take,  which I promptly lost.

image

With a beautiful morning looming, I was up watching the lake for signs of fish and they where still about.  They had even started to venture out into open water, which was nice to see.  This is a sure sign that spring was getting under way more and more each day.

image

The day pasted and night fell again with no signs of Mr Carp making a mistake.  There where a few showing in open water and the bay beyond where I was fishing.  It appeared that they where only featuring out of their safe haven at night.

Over the next night there was a lot of rain, which completely put a stop to any signs of fish.

Perfect last morning, until the hail storms arrived.  This clearly was also going to put the fish off.

Until next time
Richard

Trip No 44 Carp Fishing (2016)

I has been promising to take my eldest daughter fishing since last year and she has been very patient with me as I have been telling her that it’s way to cold (as I did not want to put her off, by going in bad weather).
image

Well, we have finally made it.  My swim selection was narrowed down to a swim that fitted a two man bivvy and was big enough to be able to let her do some float fishing.

My half of the swim gave me access to a very nice tree lined margins that I baited up with Bait-Tech new spod mix.

image
And a couple of handfuls of poloni boilies over the top.

image

Perfect with the sun beaming down, should warm that area up nicely.
image

The other rod was flicked further along and both had washed out poloni pop on.

image

We sat back and enjoyed the view.  We did a spot of float fishing before retiring to the Bivvy to watch some DVD’s for the evening.  It mostly rained and I was feel quite confident that the carp would be feeding.

At around 6 am, I was awaken by a friendly duck pick up my hook bait, THANKS.

And that was the only excitement.

Until next time

Richard

Trip No 43 Carp Fishing (2016)

I am here on the big lake again and it’s so nice to be able to set up and enjoy a brew in day light hours!

image

With the sun setting and baits out on the same spots as last trip.  So the only change is single hook baits and mesh bag’s, as a cold night is forecast and there were no real signs of fish, other than way into the sanctuary area.

Bit of a frosty pack up this morning and no beeps in the night, just a good night sleep on the bank.

Until next time

Trip No 42 Carp Fishing (2016)

image

I am so glad the clock’s have changed.  I can now set up without the rush and get it all perfect.

I am in an area where I spotted fish the other day.  I was just standing and taking a look around, one just pocked it’s head out – sorted.

image

I managed to find a couple of nice spots in 5ft of water which is good for here.

image

I baited both rod’s with 4 spombs of Bait-Tech poloni boilies and flicked a small Godman Angling mesh bag, with a washed out poloni pop on each spot.  I opened the flask and had my first brew, I never take brew equipment with me for a quick night session, until the summer months.  I much prefer time laying my bag and listen out for fishing, especially in early spring time as you can learn a lot.

As I drifted off to sleep, I could hear some fish crashing to the left of me, near a small island.  I was feeling quite confident, however the alarm sounded at 0545 and I had not had a single bleep, when I reeled in, I discovered that all was well with my hook bait and presentation.  Oh well, you can’t win them all.

Until next time

Trip No 41 Carp Fishing (2016)

I am out for 24hrs this time, a whole day and then the night.  I need to be home by 10 Saturday morning as it’s Easter weekend and we have quite a bit on.

I was hoping to get on the top lake, unfortunately there are 3 other angler’s on there and I don’t wish to crowd the lake.  There is plenty of room on the other two, with the wind changing direction and a strong blow forecast.  I has a look round for an hour and a bit, I quite fancied the island swim as the wind would be pushing onto it.

image

But I was going to treat this as a day session first, as it was only just 0730 and I did not wish to marker around until this afternoon.  I would decide on the best approach, depending on what I had seen or not.

image

Summit Tackle stainless is look good

I set up home and flicked out both rod’s with Bait-Tech washed out poloni pop ups and Godman Angling mesh bag’s which had been soaking in Poloni oil for the past week.

At around 1430 it was time to start leading around.  With no fish action on the rod or in the lake, I opted to fish just off a nice 4 ft hump that dropped down to 6 ft.  I baited that up with 4 spombs of my Groundbait and a few had full’s of poloni boilies.  The other rod was either going to be of the side of the island which is the obvious choice or flicked left along the right hand margin as it dropped of to 7ft which was quite appealing.

image

The calm before the storm.  I had changed over my line as well this trip to Asso Fishing Line tetramax, as this part of the lake is full of bays and boulders for the fish to run along.

As the night progressed, the wind & rain arrived and I was feeling quite confident. However, I only had one beep in the night and by 9 am it was time to head home for a weekend with the family.

Until next time

Richard
