Trip No 132 Pike Fishing (2016)

With the weather looking settled for a good week or two, this year I will be able to track down a nice PB Pike (hopefully).

This is my second trip out and I have moved to another area of the river.  I am planning on doing this a bit, until I find the perfect area.  I may well start to do a bit of prebaiting.

At the moment I am using deadbaits, mackerel on one rod with Sardines on the other. I am also injecting them with SpottedFin Salmon oil to boost the attraction levels o.

As my time is limited to 4 hours, I don’t plan on moving around unless I see any real signs of Pike movement.  I will just concentrate on one area at a time and hopefully track down a nice new PB for myself this year.  I am not forgetting about the Carp (like I did last year), I intend to do a couple of trips each week for them as well, until the lakes freeze over, which I think is a real possibility this year.

I had a move of swim for the last hour, with a bait in front of the reed’s, I was feeling very confident.

It was certainly a pleasant few hours out, unfortunately no joy, this time.

Until next time

Richard

Trip No 131 Pike Fishing (2016)

I am out after the Pike on the river today, the weather is pretty good and I keep seeing loads of Pike photos on FB.

I haven’t quite got as long as normal, as my youngest has a school performance this afternoon.  I was not due to go fishing today but my plans were scuppered yesterday – my wife unknowingly took my car keys to work with her!  I just had to get out here today.

It does look very Wintery, I must say, with clear blue skys and a hard frost on the ground.  Just what we needed, as we are well over due a hard Winter.

No joy today, I will return tomorrow and we shall see.

Until next time

Richard

Trip 130 Carp Fishing (2016)

This is my only trip out this week, well sort of.  I did make the journey down yesterday, only to find it had left half my tackle sitting on the wheelly bin outside the house! DOH!  It was nice to see the lake and bump into a fellow member and share my story, if it’s funny, a story has to be shared, as is my belief – you just have to laugh about these things.

The last time I was in this swim, there where a few fish showing along here.  So for me, this is the obvious place to start.  Unfortunately, on this lake, the fish are very shy at this time of the year and don’t give themselves away a lot.  As I only have 4 hrs available, so instead of walking around, I flick a bag out in a likely spot (based on prior knowledge) and then take it from there.  Being able to be on the bank so much, does help with fish location.  This has to be a top priority, in order to be able to catch them.

Even with a spot of sunshine to warm the margins up, unfortunately a blank trip today.

Until next time

Richard

Trip 129 Carp Fishing (2016)

This trip is going to be a bit wet and windy, as there is a good storm pushing though tonight.  This means plenty of wind and rain to stir the fish up.

The swim selection was a bit limited, a few other members had the same idea.  The swim I had fished during the week was available and I was very confident that the fish would still be in the area.

This would also give me a bit of shelter from the weather.  Both rods where going to be fished in the margins, for the late morning and afternoon.  The bags were filled with my stix & bag mix and a Natural Pop Ups.

The right hand rod would stay under this bush, with a nice load of Spotted Fin G02 groundbait and chopped Catalyst boilies.  The other rod would be pushed out from the margins, as the chance of getting a fish in at night from there was zero (even with my rod butts in the door way), when the storm arrived with the wind and waves!

Before the rain

And after the rain, it nearly got on the door.

The levels certainly came up a bit last night.  First real Autumn storm to get the leaves blown out of the trees and that certainly did happen last night.

A bit of a morning glow coming from the distance.

Unfortunately, despite my best efforts, I didn’t get any fish – which was a shame.

Until next time

Trip No 128 Carp Fishing (2016)

After being in the right swim the other night – but not being able to put a bait where it needed to be.  This was because of the fish’s well fare.  If I had put my bait where I have done today, there would be now way of getting the fish in, unless I was sitting next to my rods and locked up tight.  I believe, it should not be fish at all costs and we need to look after the welfare our prey and no scars or ripping mouths.

So, today I am sitting in the water, next to my rod and hopefully the carp will still be in this area.  The wind has changed around and the temperature has dropped, however there is a bit of rain & cloud about.

With only one rod and 4 hrs to fish.  I tend to find this more productive and when fishing the margins, you do need a bit more room to get the fight under control.  All I have done is flicked a single natural pop out with a small Stix Mix  bag, sprayed with catalyst Booster Spray and a small handful of chopped Catalyst boilies.

Despite the odd carp topping close by, I just couldn’t tempt them today.

Until next time

Richard
