With the cold snap continuing and those lovely Winter’s days – with frosty starts and clear blue sky’s. There is no place in would rather be, down the Avon after pike.
My first spot of the day.
My third spot of the day, after having a Jack instantly from my second swim.
From my last swim I had another Jack Pike. One fish was taken on Herring and the other on Mackerel, with and injection of Spotted Fin salmon Oil.
I headed back down the lake for my night session by 7 pm and luckily for me, the swim I was after was free.
All set up and feeling very confident, the weather was very mild and there was a nice full moon. Unfortunately, my efforts were only rewarded with a single bleep and not a whisper over a Carp when I was listening out in the night.
With the weather looking very cold and bleak this week, I think I shall be back after the Pike for my next trip.
With the mild weather still here (well for the next 48 hrs at least) and as I believe that Carp are more in touch with nature. Hopefully, they will pick up on the up and coming cold snap and get their heads down today or tonight, when I shall be back again.
Unfortunately no joy again, I did spot a couple of fishy signs and felt I was in the right place. Fingers crossed, the swim will be free when I get back.
With the mild weather back for the next week, it’s Carp time again.
After a drive around and a walk with a chat to a couple of anglers who were here. I settled on this swim, for the afternoon & night. With the very cold snap we had just had, there was no way I was putting much bait out. I felt that a small bag in the margins with a Frank Warwick Corn pop ups on and a small amount of 2 mm catalyst pellets, would be my best option. I fished the other rod with a single pop up and cast at any signs of fish, especially at night, as before Christmas this is when they where most active.
All done and just waiting.
With the mist rolling in and night time coming, it was time to get settled in for the night – watching TV and listening out for the carp.
Well, that was a quiet night – with not even a bleep or any signs of topping carp. Think I am off down the other end of the lake my next trip.
