Trip 18 Carp Fishing – 2018

I am back down the lake with the Deeper again today and mapping more swims as I go along – lucky I had my tackle with me as I spotted a group of fish.

Think I would be silly not to have a go.  I continued my mapping trip for another hour and a bit, then came back to the swim and set up.

The swim was under water and very enclosed in with tree but I could get both rods in that area.  I baited one rod with a Fw miracle berry Wafters and a tiny mesh bag of my stix mix made up of Spotted Fin products.

and the other rod was on a Fw Masala Pops ups with small mesh bag filled with Betafin Pellets Soaked in mimamonos for added attraction.

Both sprayed with plenty of Catalyst booster spray.

It was only a matter of time before the right hand rod was off.  I was battling with a nice lump who insisted on going under the overhanging trees to my left.

As fish just love to keep your heart pumping I was battling it under the rod tip avoiding the other rod and an array of fallen branches. After what felt like an age, the fish was in the net.  As I was sorting out the retaining sling to weigh the fish, would you believe it, the other rod screamed into life.  Why are carp like buses sometimes?!  I quickly got the carp in the water.  I picked the other rod up as I needed to gain line as fast as possible to get the fish under control before that one found the under water snags.  At this point, I still had the cord from the retaining sling in my teeth, this was the only safe place to put it as I was knee dip in water.  I finally had the other fish under control, put the cord over one of the buzzers on my pod and then got back to netting this fish.

First fish – a nice 30lb 8oz Common

My second fish – a nice 17lb 8oz Mirror.

I was well happy for this result.  I had a couple of liners when I thought the rod was going to bust into life – I even pulled into one of them but it was just thin air.  I have a feeling there is a trailing fish out there.

Until next time

Richard

Deeper Pro Plus – Hint & Tips – Night Mode – Part 5

Night mode is a very useful tool for the angler who arrives at the lake after dark.

Night mode solves this problem as you have the ability to change the black cap over to a orange one.  If you then set your Deeper to the night mode function, you will get a flash of orange light.

This is very visible at an amazing range.  You can the follow your normal process of clipping up and adding enough to allow for your bait to land on the spot.  The beauty of the light, is that you can line this up with a horizon marker and you will be safe in the knowledge you are fishing the perfect spot, even in the dark.

To set up night mode.

1- open the Deeper app and select settings

2- Scroll down until you find night fishing, which will be set to off.

3- Select night fishing

4- and change to on

This will activate the flashing light

Hope this helps

Richard

Trip 17 Carp Fishing – 2018

After spend a few hours on the lake today playing with the Deeper and flicking the rods out for an hour or two (and getting that spring feeling).  I just had to come back down after doing the school run and my house husband bit!

I arrived just on last light and was planing on going in a swim where I had spotted some fish earlier and a very interesting spot.

This feature was a gradual slope up and then a drop off into deeper water.  The fish, as you can see, are located on the slope.  I clipped up my rods before I headed home this afternoon and was lucky enough to into this swim.  The lake had 4 other anglers on.  We must have thought the same thing about the weather.  I spombed out some crushed up Smokey Jack boilies and fished both rods on this area.  Both rods had a FW Masala Pop up and a mirical berry Wafters with a washed out Maggot Cluster.

There is always a bit of light pollution when you take a photograph these days.

Let’s see how the night pans out for me.

The night passed with out a single bleep.  I suppose after all that cold weather, the carp are not quite in the mood to wake up just yet.  Hopefully a few more mild days will fix that.

It was very nice to pack up in daylight hours for the first time in a long time.

Until next time

Richard

Trip 16 Carp Fishing – 2018

It’s definitely looking a lot like Spring but it doesn’t feel like it just yet. Once we get into March, realistically we are moving forward towards those lovely Spring days.

I had a play around with the Deeper in a couple of swims, in order to build up my lakebook map, this lake will be shutting down at the end of March for its closed season.

I then head for an area where I felt would be a likely spot, the sun would be warming up the treeline and the small bay area.  I cast out both rods along here, one on a Frank Warwick Masala Pops up Mas & the other on a Miracle Berry pop up with a Maggot Cluster on top.

I didn’t put the Deeper out as I don’t want to spook any fish which may be in the area, as I only had a couple of hours left before home time.

With just under an hour to go, I reeled in and headed off round the lake with the Deeper again.  This was my main aim of the few hour’s here and I found a couple of interesting features.

The bottom screen shot shows fish on the screen (I still had the fish icon set as on),  as I had been playing around in another Sydicate members swim for a bit. The top screen shot is just a pukka on.

Until next time

Richard
