CATCH REPORT

Why Change a Winning Formula? – Another Three-Night Carp Fishing Session

This week’s session was pretty much going to follow the same approach as last week: strong winds from the southwest, plenty of rain, and, more importantly, I just needed to get back into the same swim — or at least one nearby — after my successful session.

As luck would have it, that swim was free, so I quickly set up home and just about managed to get my rods out before the rain arrived. My approach was exactly the same as last week — why change a winning formula?

Once again, I was using Hobo Armour end tackle, which has been performing brilliantly for me, giving me complete confidence in what I’m presenting. On the business end, I stuck with Nutrabaits EnerGize boilies, backed up with Jurassic Particles to give the carp something a little different to home in on.

The combination has certainly been working for me, and with the fish clearly feeding, I saw no reason to change things. Sometimes keeping things simple and having confidence in what you’re doing is half the battle.

I was only planning on spending two nigh

ts on the bank, but as is often the way with fishing, it turned into another three-nighter.

The tally was as follows:

10 carp

This included 2 mirrors, which are surprisingly common to see in the water, but considerably less so on the bank.

I had 5 x 20s, topped off with two lovely 29-pounders, one of which went 29lb 15oz. Digital scales certainly keep you honest!

Unfortunately, I also lost 4 fish, which is always frustrating, but that’s fishing.

Overall, another very productive session, and one I’m certainly not going to complain about.  Hobo Armour end tackle, EnerGize boilies, and Jurassic Particles all played their part, and once again, the lake has shown just how rewarding it can be when you get the approach right.

Until next time,

Richard

About richardhandel

I would like to give a brief snap shot of my life and introduce myself; My name is Richard Handel and was born in 1965 in Suffolk. I have worked as a UK Operation & Intermodule Manager for a shipping company. I live in Hampshire now and am married with 2 young children, both girls so I am a bit outnumbered even the cat is a girl! I have been fishing since I was about 7 years old. I started on small local rivers in Suffolk, then moved onto gravel pits and then carp fishing. My personal best is a 39.08 mirror, over recent years I have started river fishing again, on the Hampshire Avon, this is a nice break from the carp lakes. My life has turned a big corner this year, the company I was working for relocated their Operation centre to Estonia. I was offered a job at the head office in London. This would have meant a 5 day commute and working in Stratford. As a family, we did not fancy this, as I would hardly spend any time with the children (and the Mrs). So after 22.5 years, I was given a nice redundancy package and with my wife is working full time. I became the house husband. This has meant a complete turn around in my fishing, as I can pick and choose when I go. I have found a splendid new syndicate to fish this year, which includes 5 lakes and some 8 miles of river with only 150 members. It's an amazing change to the way I am able to fish. I am now trying to start my own tackle business and make a bit of a name for myself in the world of fishing, as I have retired from real work. Richard
