Lucky me, I am back on the mill-pond with my good friend Rob Nunn.
I am fishing the same swim as last time, however, summer has arrived and it looks great. I have not seen this lake in the summer for over 30 years.
I am fishing two rod’s on the same spots as my last trip. As the lily pads are up I cannot afford not to put a bait on them.
For some reason, the first night past with no action to any of my rod’s. This was a bit odd, as there had been plenty of signs that Mr Carp was still in the area as the sun was setting. We will see what today and tonight brings.
Rod -1
Was cast to a small set of pads in the right hand corner of the bay.
Rod-2
was cast by an overhanging tree.
Rod-3
was cast by a set of pads to my right.
All rod’s were on Gulp Baits Tuna & Spice bollies as normal.
Rods 1 & 2 had Bait Tec hemp & pellet spread around the area.
All set for night number 2.
At around 8pm, I lost a fish in the right hand side set of pads which I hooked from the left hand side set of pads. I had lots of line bites in the night, with no joy by 8 am. As Rob had 6 fish, I though there must be an issue with my rigs, upon reeling in I found that 2 were tangled (great one) a waste of a nights fishing. I recast all my rod’s for the day, as it was going to be overcast until noon time. I really need my luck to change soon (please).
I have got 24 hrs left to turn this session around. Lets hope my change of tactics works. I have got new rigs on and changed one spot to the right hand side set of pads for the day.
At around 2 pm I had a take on the middle rod, which after a quick fight was safely in the net.
Not long after this I had a tench from the same spot.
At around 3 am, I had a nice common on the right hand rod. At around 4.30 am, I re-baited the other rod’s, as I had had a lot of line bits in the night with no pick ups. I was a bit paranoid after the night before. One rod was OK, however the other rod had no bait. All sorted by 5 am and after a cup of coffee I thought I better get my head down for a bit as I had a 3 hour drive home later on.
Thats all for now

I am back out again this time for two nights. However, it’s over the weekend and its busy. I have been lucky enough to get one of the swims I was hoping for. As the weather is going to be hot, I wanted to get a swim near the pads or in between. I believe that the fish will be out and about moving through the pop lilly pads.
I have cast a rod not to close but near the right set of lily’s with a Nash Tackle Zig Bug .
The other rod is in between an overhanging tree and the pads.
With a kg of Gulp Baits Tuna & Spice 16mm boillies and some Bait Recast Chilli Hemp + pellets with a hinged snowman rig.
The Pop up is Gulp Baits Absolut Plum.
First night and day
With no joy in the night and the wind pushing to the far bank, I moved the Zig rod over there for the day. With only one sign of Mr carp in the pad by me at around 5pm, it was getting to that time of the day when I needed to review my tactics. I had had lots of line bites in the night, this may well have been pike as they had been after the Roach in the evening. However, when the carp pasted through my swim earlier, it had done the same. There was 3ft deep of the front of the swim. I ground up some bait in a Korda Krusha and put the contents just off the edge of the swim.
I would drop a bait down there at night fall, as I am still confident with the Zig rod’s as the far bank still looks carpy.
at around 8pm I changed over to a bottom bait for the night.
Second night and day
Well, that did not work. I am going to give it till noon, then pack up and do some work on my allotment (Southamptonallotments.com).
I have put the Zig Bug back on and dropped it on the edge of the pads, where the fish past though yesterday, Let’s hope that works or it’s going to be yet another blank and this time two nights (not very good), as a footnote out of the 6 anglers on the weekend, no fish have been out however I am still not very happy blanking.
I am off to fish Hollbrook Mill Pond again soon, with my old friend Rob Nunn. Let’s hope my fortune can change with his help.
My bait is on the edge of the pads.
By 2pm I had had enough, there were no signs of Mr Carp which suprised me a bit. I had a quick chat with the guy in peg 1 and he had only seen one fish show in two nights.
Oh well, back soon
Richard
