Back out again for more punishment in this heat, after Mr Carp, in the little hidden away swim.
Let’s hope the Roach keep away.
At around 4am, I was awoken by my alarm with a carp kiting towards the pads. I quickly ran down, grabbed the rod and finally turned the carp right at the edge of the pads. After a quick fight, a nice but small mirror, around the 14lb mark was safely in the net.
The next time I heard an alarm, it was my phone telling me it was time to pack up and get to work.
I don’t finish work until 1730 this week and am off kid duty. So I can go fishing straight away from work, therefore, it’s off to the lake as it’s closer than the river.
Unfortunately, it may be too hot. However, I should get a better nights sleep here than at home, as we are well and truly in a heat wave for the first time in years.
I am fishing one of my favorite swims with one rod cast across to the pads.
In a small gap and the other rod up the margin.
With the rods sorted and the bed done, it was time to look at the lake to see any signs of Mr Carp moving around.
there has been a few fish crashing around the lake tonight, so I am feeling very confident.
with loads of line bites and a fare few beeps in the night I awoke to this.
It had been nibbling away at my 16mm boilies until it finally hooked itself.
Not bad if I had been fishing roach, anyway it’s time for another day in the office
Out for my Wednesday night Carp fishing on my favorite lake. With the wind pushing down towards the dam end, it looked the best option for tonight’s trip. I have fished this swim a lot before and so I put the baits were I had caught fish before.
One by the monk.
The other in a deep hole off the margin, where an old fallen tree had sunk in before the work party pulled it out.
I have set up well back from the swim, as it will help not to disturb the margin rod.
I had a lot of liners in the night on the right hand rod and when I reeled in, in the morning there was a tree branch attached to the hook. (GREAT)
I am out for my Monday evening trip on the river. As ever I am hoping for my first Hampshire Avon Barbel, which is proving very hard. This is my fourth season, mind you, last year was a complete wash out with all the flooding. It’s a bit early for the barbel yet, but as I am still learning I feel it’s best to start now and hopefully get a feel for the river. As I am splitting my fishing this year between the river and lakes, I only get to fish Monday evenings from about 7pm.
This week I have gone for an area that I hope looks Barbely, with a nice snag and shallower water with weed running through the middle.
Let’s hope my luck is in tonight.
I had to wait until 21.30, before my frist fish was in the net. Chub as normal, at around the 3lb mark. I stayed until 22.30 with no other action, must be the hot weather
I have settled for a swim down the deeper end of the lake. As on the way up the track, I spoke to another member on his way home from a two night blank. However, he did hear fish in the night crashing down this end.
Rod 1
I have put the bait under an overhanging tree branch in 3ft of water, along the margin with some Gulp Baits Tiger Nuts.
Rod-2
I am a bit spoilt for choice here, with pads down the margin and across the other side or even open water. I decided to put it over the far side and if I saw any signs of Mr Carp before night fall I could move it.
Lets see what happens!
At around 9pm, a nice fish rolled by a large set of pads on the far bank. My best bet was to reel in the margin and cast it over there.
I had put some Gulp Baits Red Crustacean boilies in a bottle of dip last year to harden them up and to soak. I thought I would give one a go, I also made up a small pva bag, as I was not going to put any freebies out.
At 6am, I had a couple of beeps and opened my eyes to see the tip bending round. I pulled into a nice fish, who at the time it was heading for the pads. So I had no other option, but to hold on until it turned, after 10 minutes or so it was safely in the net and I breathed a sigh of re-leaf. I knew it was going to be a good fish, as it was a plodder and when it rolled into the net I knew I had a nice big common and a new PB. It was not quite the 30+ , but I was still over the moon with a 28lb 12oz fish .
