Trip No24 Carp Fishing (2014)

I am out for a sort day trip today as I have the day off but have had to drop the children at school and collect them. I have worked out I have about 5 hrs fishing time. Hopefully, I will convert this sort trip into a carp on the bank!

I have settled to fish a small bay area, the wind is pushing in nicely. The weatherman say’s it’s going to be a hot one, so I am hoping the wind will help.

Both rod’s have been cast to the far tree line, they have tiny bags on with some boilies in them which have been soaking in a pot full of dip for some week’s.

At about noon time, the left hand rod was away and it felt like a lump, the rod slowly bent round, as the fish headed towards the snags. I had one option, which was to hang on and hope the fish turned. I could not hold it, so I had to just hang on and applied more pressure when I could and the hook pulled. With that sinking feeling, when you know that fish was a big fat plodding lump, but it was not being stopped today.
I reeled in and checked the hook and it was still very sharp, I was just unlucky the the hook’s hold was not better. Oh well still a couple more hour’s, all could change.

Well, that was the only bite of the day

Trip No23 Carp Fishing (2014) Inland Sea

I am back out on the inland sea, still after the monster common that lives in here.

I am in the same swim as before, the wind is still pushing across the side and right into this back.

I have a bait in the middle, between the overhanging bushes on a nice sandy patch.

The other bait is just a rods length off these reeds, on 4ft of water which is just on the drop off and right on the edge of a thick weed bed.

All that happened in the night was that the duck’s found my spot and then spent the rest of the night and early morning moping up. At least the spot is clean, however, no fish moved in.

Trip No22 Carp Fishing (2014)

Dispite being on call, (and with the family away) the weather being so nice I could not turn down a nights’ fishing. As I was on call and the phone and upload signal is very poor here, my swim choice had to be based on that first and location second choice.

It is so warm at the moment, I headed for the shallow area, which was full of fish. However, some were a bit on the small side.

I opted to keep away from that end, even though it did look good, but with only a foot and a half of water I could clearly see no big fish here. I could however, periodically keep checking this area.

I put both rod’s in open water, in the siltey areas between the bar’s. The Max depth here is 3 and a half foot with a 1 foot bar leading out towards the island. As I was the only person on this side of the lake I was a bit worried I had got it wrong. The mobile phone signal is rubbish over there due to all the trees. Sounds like I have no choice, other than being at home and you will never catch sitting on the sofa!

However I do love the view and the wildlife.

After some worrying hours, I finally landed my first fish of the trip at arround 1am. The fish was around the 12lb mark so I did not bother it weigh it. I unhooked it in the net and rebaited with another bag full of 12mm boilies and pellet with a good helping of liquid attract, with a 16mm/12mm snowman set up. I cast back out to my mark and got my head down again.

Well, that was the only fish of the session, so I had a good nights sleep, packed up and was off to work again.

Trip No 21 Carp Fishing (2014)

As the family is away, I am making the most of the free time. Unfortunately, I am on call this weekend (bad planning), I should get some time in though.

My swim choice was a bit quick tonight. I got down here late and I need to be gone early for work. So I settled for the first swim I found, Mr Carp was in the nearest swim to the gate 😉 and this was the first swim I looked at. Mind you there is not a bad swim on this lake, it has features everywhere you look.

Rod 1 was put on the end of a bush as this was a route in and out of the bay, up the tree line towards where I had seen the carp showing. I can’t put a bait anywere nearer, as there is another bay and these fish would be in there like a bullet and I would have lost another fish.

Rod 2 was cast just off the end of the island, there’s a set of reeds around the corner out into the lake, this also looked. The only other option was to lead around, which I did not fancy, as this would disturb the swim to much.

Rods are pointing at the spots for fast indication, hopefully they will not snag me up tonight.

Trip No 20 Carp Fishing (2014) The Inland Sea

I have got the opportunity to fish a very large lake, however, due our good friends English Nature (who do not seem to understand the benefits of having an angler present on their beloved lakes, we all could lookout for each other), we are only allowed to fish a tiny fraction of this lake. (Rant over) This place is huge.

Where on earth do you start? With a maker rod, as we can only fish from dawn to dusk, I did not fancy whipping water too much. The spot to start for me was a overhanging bush up the right margin, as the lake went round into another bay.

The other rod was going to be a different matter, the swims had been set out very close and there was someone set up to the left of me. I thought it was best to lead around a bit and then I settled on a nice silty spot some 50 yards out.

It does feel like you are looking for Mr Carp in a hay stack! However, with the wind blowing in the bay and having warm rain, I was feeling very happy about my swim choice. As everyone arrives at 5pm on the dot and this being my first trip, I was guided by the two other Anglers in front of me, which worked out very nicely I feel. Not bad for this day and age and with the carp angling issues we all have, it put some faith back in me.

Oh, so many choices. I am looking foward to get my head around this place. With only 4 swims so close together and there will always be 4 anglers on the lake in the same areas, it will be fun all around.

My first trip on here was a big fat blank.

It would have been nice to catch, but my chances were low.
