Trip No 35 Carp Fishing (2014)

As I have only got one month before my syndicate closes for the Winter (as part of the SSSI agreement with English Nature), bird breeding season.  (I am sure they breed in the Spring – must be just my garden  ; -).

image

I had plenty of water to choose from.  The problem was, the deep channel which runs in front of the swims, which was to the left of me did not come this far down and I had to spend a long time finding the right spot.  Everywhere was between 2 and 2.5ft of water.

image

I did finally find a deep silty area off the side of the island.

There is a bay between the point of the island .

After Spoding a nice amount of Bait-tech boilies, one on the hook with a small peace of foam and a two bait stringer to stop tangles. First rod was done.

image

If you look carefully you may spot my marker float, as I had found I nice 3ft silty area just behind a bar that was only 1.5 ft deep.  That should do the job.

I had already flicked the left had rod up the margin, however, as there was a small bar between me and the over hanging bushes, I felt this was not an option for a rod to be there at night, always think of the fishes safety first.

image

As you can see, I have also had to put a small v shaped stick in the ground to make sure my line is safe, as I have a long landing net pole, this is also across the gap.  For when I get a fish.  As you can see this would not be an option.  So the plan is to move this rod to the other spot as the sun is setting.

Unfortunately, no joy in the night, Oh well.

Till next time.

Trip No 34 Carp Fishing (2014)

I managed another night out, but I only just there before the sun was setting.  I had a late text from a friend suggesting doing a social, we had not seen each other for some months, so why not.

image

We both arrived around the same time, and had a quick look round.  We both fancied the bank that the wind had been pushing over too.

All set up and fishing under the stars tonight,  I love fishing like that since I was a kid.

At around midnight, my mate woke me up to take a photo of a fat common just over the 20 lb mark.  With that done, it was back to bed expecting to hear my phone alarm telling me it was time to go to work.  At 3 am my bite alarm went off (nice to hear), the fish was kiting to the right towards an overhanging tree.  Not this time Mr Carp I thought, the fish turned and after a bit of entertainment in the margin a nice 16lb ish common was in the net.  I recast and got my head down again,  we awoke to a nice wet misty morning.  I did not take a photo of it, as it was too cold, the temperature dropped too low for my summer weight sleeping bag, so I was too cold to think about a photo!

I did find some cool mushrooms or toadstools.

Time for work again.

Trip No 33 Fishing (2014) Hampshire Avon

I am back out on the Hampshire Avon after barbel again.  I am also bringing a guest along.
We started off close to the same swim as my last trip as it was looking good.

image

We were only using 1 rod each as to not spook the fish.  I was on more of a social trip, which is a chance to catch up on man talk,  I live in a house full of girls (even the cat was a girl), this was well over due.  However, after some hours and still no joy and a long conversation with the bailff, we thought it was best we moved to another area where he had seen barbel recently.

image

Now, that looks a bit better and we may be in with a chance.

image

image

Nice clear gravel spot and an overhanging tree for Mr Barbel/Mr Chub to hide under.  I dropped my bait about a foot in front of the tree, fingers crossed it should drop down under the tree and the large griper lead should hold the bottom.  I am putting out my normal mix of Bait-Tech goodies with plenty of attractions and we will see what happens.

Unfortunately, with all our best efforts, we both blanked, oh well.

Till next time

Trip No 32 Fishing (2014)

After a couple of weeks off for a very nice family holiday,  it’s time to get out fishing again.  Unfortunately, work has gone mad and my time is going to be limited for the next month or so.  Which is a shame, however, you need to get the money to buy the stuff to get out and play (that’s life).  Anyway, I have a few hours free, so off to the river for me.  I felt that this was the best plan for me this evening.

image

It had been a bit stormy and hopefully that would stur the fish up for a bit of a feed.

I found a nice area which had a very clean patch of gravel, by some norfolk reeds.  I dropped a few small balls of bait-tech ground bait mixed with pellet, sweetcorn and plenty of liquid attraction.  With a bit of fake pellet as hook bait and some paste moulded around it, I carefully lowered the rig down on to the clear patch of gravel.

The other rod was flicked across the other side of the river onto a shallow sandy patch.

image

After 2 hours of the swans plowing up and down feeding, I was getting a bit fed up.  The sun was coming out it and it was turning into a pleasant evening.  I moved my other rod to this bank, a floating raft of weed was under my rod tip.

I baited up with a small amount of goundbait, I am using bait-Tech pollony boilies with some broken in half.  I dropped some at other end of the raft, so they drifted down stream towards my hook bait.  The plan worked!

image

Not bad for an evening Barbel fishing.

This was my first Hampshire Avon Carp,  I am over the moon eben though it only weighed 13-7.  This was all that I had.

Till next time

Trip No31 Carp Fishing (2014)

I am out for a quick evening session.  Unfortunately, on the hottest day of the week.  This can’t be helped and I must make the most of it, as I am getting a bit pushed for time, as we are off camping for a week soon.  I have picked a lovely bay with overhanging trees all around and I am spoilt for choice as to where to put my hook baits and as I only got here at 7 pm, I don’t wish to spook the fish that are in the bay.

image

                       Spoilt for choice.

image

All set up and close to the rod’s

image

My left hand rod was cast over to the far back, with a fluorocarbon line on, so there wouldn’t be a tight line across the bay.

image

The other rod was cast in a small bay along the tree line.

image

The carp were still happily drifting around and crashing in the trees, so things were looking good and after my last nightmare trip,  I was hoping for a better result!

Oh well, I’ll chalk this trip down to a blank again! My luck has got to change for the better soon

Till next time
