Trip No39 River Fishing (2014)

This week I am giving the lake a break and have a go on the Hampshire Avon.  The weather has turned out hot and sunny this afternoon and after a long walk around I am still a bit lost as to where to fish.  The shallow or deeper water?

image

After a couple of false starts and some swan trouble I settled for an area with both options (a shallow area leading into a much deeper area on the far bank), the swan’s were a royal pain in the you know where!  I had picked their favourite feeding area (joy).

image

After an hour of the swan’s, could take it no more and I had to move.  I went for a swim with a nice overhanging tree, which I liked the look of.  It was on the way up the river, with a hugh raft of weed to fish under.  I did hope this would be weed free, as there is still a lot of silk weed around this year, due to the lack of other types of weed in the river.

image

I was on my normal mix of pellets/ground bait + sweetcorn, all mixed up with some liquid attractions.

image

The sky got very moody

image

And the dam swan’s had found me again!  Can’t believe my luck today.

After the swan’s moved in again,  I was completely peed off and not in the mood to fish (swan) anymore.  So home I was going.  I did look in another swim,  but I did not fancy it.

Till next time

Trip No38 Carp Fishing (2014)

image

Lucky me out again and feeling way more confident than the last trip.  I have seen more carp than before.

image

I have one rod in the middle of the island, with 6 small spomb of 14mm boilies around and a 4 bait stringer.  Now you don’t hear that word a lot these days, (not sure if its a forgotten method?).

image

The other rod is off the corner of another island, with the same set up.

And hopefully these will bring me some fish?

Coffee and soup time from my new found toy!

image

My Thermos food flask (with some bread to mop up).

image

I also had a cracking view – it was that time of night when the deer are out and about.

Well after a great nights sleep and no carp, I am at a bit of a loss on this lake.  I have been talking to the bailiff and he was saying that it’s hard going at the moment. Thank god its not just me then.  Saying this, with the number of carp that were showing last night,  it’s still a bit of a shock to blank.

Trip No37 Carp Fishing (2014)

I am out with a friend, who is also a member of this syndicate water, and we have opted to fish here. We disided to fish the third lake, I have only fished here three times and this was when the lake opened, and he had never fished it at all.

image

I found a nice 6ft bar dropping down to 8ft and placed one rod in the 8ft and the other on the 6ft, filled the area with boilies and settled down for a brew and a good chat until after dark.

No joy for me,  however my friend had a nice 20+ Common at 4 am.

Time for work.

Trip No36 Carp Fishing (2014)

Here I am again, after last time’s blank and with not much change in the weather.  After spending an hour and a half looking around with no real signs of fish, I opted for the middle lake (as it’s called) even though the are all connected by big channels.

image

The main reson for picking this lake/swim, because it’s deeper than the others and both myself and my friend had blanked in the shallower big lake last week.  I felt there was a chance.

image

Rod – 1 was on a small 2ft flat area, surrounded by 5 ft of water with a bait-tech bottom bait and 6 medium size Spomds placed around the area.

Rod -2 was down the back of a 3ft bar, in 5 ft of water, with also some more bait-tech boilies spread around the area.  I am not one for tight baited areas, as I like to get the fish moving and looking for the bait.  It also helps with the recast at night if you already have a bit out and you do not hit the spot, which can happen.

image

Let’s hope tonight’s the one.  You never know, and that’s what keeps us all going back come rain or shine, Summer or Winter,  it the thrill of the chase.

At around 0430, the right hand rod was off.  At the other end of this rod was a hard fighting common, who tried to go around the corner into the bay.

Only about 14lb, but am not going to complain.  Any fish in the net is good news.

Trip No 35 Carp Fishing (2014)

As I have only got one month before my syndicate closes for the Winter (as part of the SSSI agreement with English Nature), bird breeding season.  (I am sure they breed in the Spring – must be just my garden  ; -).

image

I had plenty of water to choose from.  The problem was, the deep channel which runs in front of the swims, which was to the left of me did not come this far down and I had to spend a long time finding the right spot.  Everywhere was between 2 and 2.5ft of water.

image

I did finally find a deep silty area off the side of the island.

image

There is a bay between the point of the island .

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4CFxoD8oDbI&list=UU-KRiiCtOmgKS70tkKPwmUA

After Spoding a nice amount of Bait-tech boilies, one on the hook with a small peace of foam and a two bait stringer to stop tangles. First rod was done.

image

If you look carefully you may spot my marker float, as I had found I nice 3ft silty area just behind a bar that was only 1.5 ft deep.  That should do the job.

I had already flicked the left had rod up the margin, however, as there was a small bar between me and the over hanging bushes, I felt this was not an option for a rod to be there at night, always think of the fishes safety first.

image

As you can see, I have also had to put a small v shaped stick in the ground to make sure my line is safe, as I have a long landing net pole, this is also across the gap.  For when I get a fish.  As you can see this would not be an option.  So the plan is to move this rod to the other spot as the sun is setting.

image

Unfortunately, no joy in the night, Oh well.

Till next time.
