Trip No 41 Carp Fishing (2015)

I am out for a two night session over the weekend, which is unusual for me.  I had the unfortunate luck with the traffic and arrived just on dark.  This was OK, as luckily for me a friend of mine was already at the lake.  He was able to tell me which swims where free and where he had seen fish and after some discussions over the phone.  I had made my swim choice before I had arrived – a little bit out of the norm.  However, a very useful tool,  when needed and as I knew this swim quiet well and had them it all marked out in my book,  setting up was very straight forward.

All rods were pop ups, due to the weed and all had bags on with broken up Poloni boilies.  As I had made notes, I was also able to spomb out a loaded of Bait-Tech’s pellets and groundbait mix with a good load of Krill & Tuna Oil that had been soaking for some time.

Night & Day One

The night passed with no other action than a tufty at about 6am, nice way start to the day.  The wind had changed as per the weather man’s report, and was now pushing hard onto this back, unfortunately, it was going to be a hot one today.

All rod’s where re-baited around 1400 hrs, with no change to the tac-ticks (I had seen a few fish show during the morning).

Night & Day Two

With no action in the dark hours, I was very happy when at around 6 am, the middle rod was off.  It was attached to a small common that proceeded to drop off at the net, after I had managed to get it through a small set of pads two my left.  Oh well.  I changed the hook and put the bait back on the spot and put the kettle on.  I sat back and watched the lake.

Flat calm, great for spotting fish.

Unfortunately, by packing up time I still had not seen or had any more fish.

Till next time

Trip No 40 River Fishing (2015)

I have popped down the river today for a few hours and after an hour of looking around, I decided that one of the weir pool’s looked very favourable.  I would rather look around for two hours and only fish for 2 hours, as you would not like to spend 4 hrs in the wrong spot, would you?

There is a nice gravel bar that I have dropped the bait just to the left of, the other rod was flicked the other side of the weir pool across the flow into a nice calm area.

Above is today’s bait choice, not sure if I will have time to use them all.  We will just have to see..

Unfortunately, no joy on the barbel front.

Trip No 39 Carp Fishing (2015)

With the decorating all but done, I wanted to reward myself!  So off fishing I went.  The kid’s were all fed, bathed and school books read, I them over to the Mrs.  I was out of there like a whippet out of the trap, down the lake and with no one else there the choice was endless.

I settled on the middle part of the complex with a south/west wind pushing hard on to this bank.  It had the water coloured up nicely, I was feeling very confident.

image

image

I placed both rod’s in the margin, with a good amount of Bait-Tech’s micro pellets mixed with Poloni groundbait and a load of Krill & Tuna oil mixed in.  I also had a few handfuls of poloni boilies in the mix for good measure.

And settled down to a blowy night.

There were a few sunny and rainy spells as well.

To my amazement, I blanked!  It looked so good.

Till next time

Trip No 38 Carp Fishing (2015)

I am out fishing with my youngest again,  which is nice, as she is asking if she can go fishing.  I may have to see if I can get her sponsored!

image

image

We are back in the same swim as before as the wind is push hard from the S/W.  We did have in mind another swim, unfortunately, they where all occupied.  I don’t feel it’s right to set up near other angler’s, as you reduce your and their chances of catching fish.  Plus she is a bit loud.  I have cast in the same spots as before and spomd out a mix of Bait-Tech pellet and ground bait mix with the sizzling Sauagse attracted, also with 10 handfuls of poloni boilies.  One rod was fished with a bottom and the other with a pop up,  both had large bags full of micro pellet soaked in Ktill and Tuna oil.

image

By this time,  it was tea time.  We heard nothing all evening, so we both just watched the lake and talked the world to rights!

At around midnight, the left hand rod was off, it was attached to a very unhappy 18 lb 14 oz Common that took several attempts to get in the net.  I looked in on my daughter half way through this and she was fast asleep! I did not take any photos as I did not fancy waking her up, I just re-baited and snook back into bed.
We were woke up around 0630 with another take,  I ran out only to find a swan had picked me up under my top tips.  Oh well, I recast to be rewarded by another take about an hour later.  This time, it was not a swan,  but a small common of around 12 lb. That will do.

image

With the wind picking up I was hopeful of getting another fish.  My daughter settled down to a bit more Roach fishing and by 11 am, it was time to start the big pack up and with no other carp, we were gone by 1230.

Till next time

Trip No 37 On The Avon

After a day’s carp fishing (well 4 hours) and the house husband stuff all done.  What else could I do but spend the evening down the river?!

image

image

image

I had been given a top tip by the Estate Manger, that the carp move up & down a 2 miles section and don’t really go beyond this area.  So, with this in mind, off I went and finally found them in a very large area above an island.  It was not that accessible with the reeds and well trodden ground by the cows.

image

image

Next time I may need to bring waders, I have wet feet already.  This is a very large area above the island, but it does have plenty of options and the carp did move around a lot.  I decided that the best place to start would be at the back of the pads.  This is where I had first spotted them digging around.  I fired out plenty of bait-Tech micro pellet, I had them left over from this mornings trip.  They were soaked in the krill & Tuna oil, a load of squads poloni boilies, a few pouch full’s of Marine pellet and sat back.  Well not quite, as the friendly cow’s were a pain.

As dusk fell, the cows slowly moved off, they must of got board finally.

At around 11 pm I decided that I should be off home as well.

Till next time
