Am out again, after a Pike or two, which is proving very tricky the year. I can only put this down to the mild winter we have had. I am trying an area which has produced some Pike in the past. I am on a small point that has an island at the entrance – which I have put a dead bait on and the other rod is on the margin tree to the left of me. I may move to another spot later on.
After the setting up from all set ups – to the point of wondering why I was bothering today and then laughing to myself when I realised that it’s trip 13!
I have set up on a day swim which gives you access to the sanctuary area (up to a rope that goes across to stop angler’s who would cast all the way up to the fallen tree and lost every fish they hooked and wounded why).
This is some 70 yards up the channel between two islands.
I have cast a single poloni pop at each corner of the rope with a small Godman Angling mesh bag filled with micro pellets and soaked in Krill and Tuna oil.
The right hand side is the access route in to another bay and the left side, leads into a channel which runs into the main lake. The sanctuary is a maze of small islands and channels, perfect for the Carp to escape all the pressure of angler’s.
With not even a single bleep (which I was surprised at) and it getting close to the children’s collection time. I had a quick lead around in another area I had been keeping a eye on. This is also part of the sanctuary area, it looked like it could hold fish and after 10 minutes, I found a couple of clear spots and put some bait out for tomorrow’s trip.
The wife has sent me out as she says her TV programs where building up, so what was I to do? The only thing, was going fishing and let her watch her programs.
So, here I am for my first Carp session of 2016. This could be a mistake, as I really need to focus on the big Pike. However, opportunity knocks and with the mild weather, I couldn’t help myself.
Even the lake is very high.
I have flicked one rod onto a nice clear spot under a bush to the right of me.
And the other rod is at the bottom of the margin self along the right hand margin.
With a good scattering of broken boilies, my groundbait mix and a poloni pop up over the top, I was very happy. Both rod’s had small stick mix mesh bags on, for added attraction.
The moon was just popping over the tree’s and the rain also started to set in. By 10 pm the Bream where starting to be very active.
A very sleepless night, thanks to the Bream and the wind. Unfortunately, no carp this time.
With the river still to high for my liking, you really need to think of your own safety in these conditions.
I really need the level to drop down to 0.6, this is where the level was before Christmas.
I have come over to the lake again, into another area with a nice bar, this is where the bream hang out. I am also hoping there would be a Pike in this area. You would think this would be perfect.
Nice overhanging tree.
The bar runs out from the point on the island, a perfect ambush point.
Unfortunately another blank day on the lake.
With a friendly Robin or two I sat back and enjoyed the day.
