Trip No 117 Carp Fishing (2016)

With my results over the past few days, there was no real choice between house work or fishing.

The picture tells it all – same swim, same spots, same bait, cant go wrong.

Oh yes it can.  With not even a single bleep in the 4 hrs I was there, maybe the fish feel it’s a Friday and there are more angler’s on the bank today, by about 75% more.

Until next time

Richard

Trip No 116 Carp Fishing  (2016)

With my success of my last day trip and similar conditions today, I felt that I had to have another go.

With the rods again on Natural Pop Ups in the same spots as before with and a few pouches fulls of Catalyst boilies fired out.  I sat back and got the book out, as I am trying not to sit playing on my phone all the time.

The perfect margins.

At around noon the right hand rod was away and a hard fight followed, up and down the margins.  All I kept seeing was a big tail and once in the net, I had a look and it was a lovely Common, not that big.

18lb 4oz

However, with a tail like that, it gave me a fight to remember.  There are overhanging trees and snags everywhere and I quickly got the rod out on the spot.  There was only an hour left, before I needed to be at the school gates and within 20 minutes it was off again!

20lb 12oz

Not a bad few hour’s fishing.

Until next time

Richard

Trip No 115 Carp Fishing (2016)

I arrived back down the lake after doing the house husband things.  I had a couple of swims on mind, after my earlier drive round the lake after my day session. I headed to my first choice, which was free and with the light fading fast, this was going to be the spot.

With the rods already clipped up and some bait out.  I flicked two Natural Pop Ups and set about setting up camp in the dark.  Once this was done, I sat for a bit, watching the lake and there were a few fish showing.  There were a couple of beeps early on on the night, I felt very confident, however it was not to be, as the alarm sounded at 0530 and it was that time again.

Until next time

Trip No 114 Carp Fishing (2016)

I am in a lovely swim today, tucked away in the back waters of the lake.

A very nice area with a few swims, which are only for day angler’s.  But to be honest, they don’t get fished that much and after seeing a few fishy signs the other week, I thought that it’s about time I gave it a go.

I had a couple of beeps on the right hand rod.  This gave me some more confidence, despite the bright sunny hot day we where having.  Within 10 minutes the rod was off, attached to very unhappy Meadow Lake Common.

A nice 22 lb Common, I was very happy with my results, did the snaps and safely returned the fish.  I then flicked another Natural Pop Ups out and a few pouch fulls of Catalyst boilies, before the seagulls could get too many.

With in the hour, the same rod was off again.  This fish had less of a fight this time and another common was in the net.

Not bad going for a 4 hour session.

Now it time for school run and on the way out, drive around the lake slowly for a quick look about.

Until next time

Richard

Trip No 113 Carp Fishing (2016)

This trip I am out for a social with a good friend.  We meet up down the lake at around 0920, after I had dropped the kids off school.  We had a good look around and settled on nice swim, which we could double up in, as this was a social outing, it would be so much more fun. I set about sorting my stuff out, whilst my friend popped to get himself a nice new Trakker low chair, which is a niffy bit of kit.

I was going to be fishing the far bank margins and after putting out a few kilos of Catalyst boilies, pellets and two Natural Pop Ups over the top.

I was all done until a quick trip home to collect the kid’s from school.  I had to wait for the wife to get home,I was then back on the lake by 1715 and the rods where back in place.

In the middle of the night, the left hand rod tightened up and I was into a nice lump.  This then proceeded to take itself around the small island to the left of me.  You guest it another win for the carp!  I am not doing too well on that front at the moment, pick up rate is good, however, the the fish to bank ratio is pretty rubbish. I redid the rod and got my head down.  Its always quite hard to sleep after the adrenaline rush of a carp on and then to loose it.  This is something that was not that common for me – this never helps .

Unfortunately, that was the only action we received over the first night.

With the days going by, its looking more like Autumn each day.

With both re-baited around 4 pm in the hope of an evening carp.  My right hand rod was off again at around 11 pm and would you believe it, my luck was not in again and yet another fish had me in the snags.  I know I am fishing within easy reach of them, but I am fishing locked up and had done this tactic to great effect last year, with not a single fish lost.  The only real explanation is that the fish have learnt to go left and down 6 yards instantly or there is a new snag that I am unaware off.

With the rod out again, but some 2 yards shorter distance of my baited spot, I am hopefully going to gain control before its too late.

This session is becoming the hardest trip for many years, as I have now lost 3 fish, which is incredibly soul destroying.  As an angler you will well truly understand losing 3 fish in a row, starts effecting the way you fish. I still have 7 hrs of fishing to turn things around and focus on the positives – Bait, Location, Casting, these were all perfect.

A lovely Autumnal photo to change the mood.

At about 7 am, the right hand was off again and this time the fish was heading into open water.  At last a bit of luck was on my side and after a couple of minutes, the fish was making its way to the net.

A lovely looking 18lb Ghosty .

A lovely sunrise this morning.

Its packing up time and with a roller coaster of a trip, the only thing to get from this trip, is the knowledge that, I may have been fishing too close to the margin snags down the right hand side of the lake.  Or just plain unlucky.  I have previously had carp from this spot and also had a great social with a friend and a few red glass where drunk.

Till next time

Richard
