Trip No 122 Carp Fishing (2016)

After a good look around and a chat with a few anglers, I settled on this lovely corner.

I fact it was so hot, I ended up sitting under the brolly with my t-shirt and nearly failing asleep!  By late afternoon, there was a lot of cloud cover and the night was looking like it would be quite warm.  This filled me with a lot of confidence.

Both rod’s were put out on the opposite margins with a good scattering of Catalyst boilies and pellets along the tree line.  Thus enabling the carp to feed up and down these margins.  My hook baits were placed at either end and I was using a yellow & pink catalyst pop up.  I had also attached a small bag on each rod filled with Pellets soaked and a couple of sprays of Catalyst liquid for some added attraction.

The wind picked up a lot in the night and there was a spell of rain.  I could hear the odd fish crashing nearby.  Unfortunately, no signs in the bay and with the alarm sounding at 0630 (a bit later than normal, the kids are of on half term break) as I did not need to be home until just before the wife leaves for work.  No day session this week also because of half term, however plenty of family  fun, which will be a nice break.

Until next time

Richard

Trip No 121 Carp Fishing (2016)

It has been a few weeks since I had visited my favourite one rod snaggy margin swim.

I have had quite a few fish this swim last year at around this time.  I thought that I had better not over look it.

I attached a small bag filled with crushed catalyst boilies, a few pellets and a couple of squirts of Catalyst spray.  This was after I had attached it to a curved shank SF Hook and Semi stiff Fin Skin.  I lowered the bag down under the bushes and sat back.  I had the pleasure of watching a Osprey fishing on the lake!  It was on its way down though it’s migration route.

Sometime around 1145 my rod hooped around and I was attached to a very unhappy Common Carp.  After a very long battle, under the rod tip and a few attempts to evade capture, I slipped a lovely Common into the net.

25lb 15oz

Just love the Autumn colours on these carp.

Until next time

Richard

Trip No 120 Carp Fishing (2016)

It’s finally happened.  The first set up in the dark, only another 4 month’s to go.  Effort=reward as they say. Unfortunately, the swim choice was very limited tonight.  I can only blame the strong South Westerly warm wind blowing up over the past few days.

There was a pretty good sunset tonight as I was driving across the forest.

The swim I have picked was one that I fished a couple of times last year.  I had noted down the sky line markers and the number of turns needed to hit the spot.  With a couple of spombs of Catalyst boilies and pellets over the top. I was all done.

At 2230, the left hand rod tightened up and pull around and I was into my first carp of the night.

That’s ok for a start and as it turned out, the only fish of the night.  This was alright by me, as it had given me the confidence to know it’s possible to catch on a night session, setting up in the dark.  Also the knowledge that I had gained over the past Winter (s) was hopefully starting pay off.

Until next time

Richard

Trip No 119 Carp Fishing (2016)

With the sun beating down today (after another night of wind and rain), I am sure the Carp will be up for a bit of warmth.  With this in mind, I have set myself up to be able to cast into a nice sheltered warm area of the lake .

A few carp are indeed moving around after a bit of food.  I have fired out a few Catalyst boilies and I am fishing a curved shank  Hook attached to Fin Skin, semi stiff hooklink, with a pop up on as the leaves are starting to fall.

Things were looking up with a few beeps, unfortunately not to be for me today.

I had a drive around before I headed home and there where a few angler’s doing the night and not many choices left for my return later on tonight.

Until next time

Richard

Trip No 118 Carp Fishing (2016)

I very much enjoyed my Sunday nights out on the lake.  It gives me plenty of time to walk around and catch up with other angler’s, there is no real rush to set up.

After a good hour, I finally settled on this swim and flicked out a couple of Natural Pop Ups along the margins.  I fired out a good mix of Catalyst boilies and pellets over the top.  I am on the back of the wind, as there was a storm which blew though Saturday night.  I am sure that the other end of the lake would have got a great deal of angler pressure.  I will save that end for my day sessions later on in the week.

With the moon coming out after an afternoon of thunder storm’s and the odd fish starting to show.  I was feeling confident and I got my head down.  However, other than a single bleep around 0430, that was the excitement for the night.  Mind you, I did spot a couple of fish showing in an area that I had not previously – which is a bonus.

For the first time this year, there was a big down poor when I was packing up and I got soaked to the skin, which was not fun.

Until next time

Richard
