Trip 42 Carp Fishing 2017

It’s Tuesday again and that means, fish a few hours in the day, head home, sort the kids out, wait for the wife to get home and then back down the lake for the night.

As luck would have I am back in the same swim as I was during the day.  I am not in the same spots, as it would be way too dangerous and not very fish safety conscious.  With a couple of hard spots found, two bags were put out.  However, after today’s success on the natural pop up both rods where on them.

It’s about 0230 as I am writing this and I have just lost my second fish of the night.  I can’t blame the hooks or the rig,  just bad luck and a bit of my fault.  I am having to play the fish hard to avoid the tree lined margins either side of me.  This is despite the swim being some 40/50 ft wide, these fish have the knowledge in their head’s, that if they can make the trees (which hang down nicely into the water), they will be free and I was so close at getting the last fish into the open water, just in front of the swim.  It’s just one of those things we a have to live with on this syndicate.  I have never known fish like this in all my year’s of fishing.  They just make a full blown run straight for the snags, with no quarter given, amazing fighting fish these Carp are in here.

Much to my delight, I finally banked a carp around 4 am.

A nice 22ld 12oz common

Back she goes, that’s taken the edge of losing two fish.

A perfect start to the day.  Well it’s time to head home.

Until next time

Richard

Trip 41 Carp Fishing – 2017

After feeling I wasn’t really on the fish recently.  I really need to check out another part of the lake that I had neglected for sometime.  This was mostly due to feeling confident where I was.  So, I headed off for a walk with the gear.

There was still that cold Northerly blowing into my face but I needed to disregard that, as I was able to cast into a sheltered part if the lake.  I was only going to be baiting one area, as that was the only one in catapult range, I was certainly not going to be spombing out bait for a 4 hour trip.  Both rods were fished along the tree lined margins, one with a Frank Warwick  Marsala pop up and the other with a natural pop up.  This rod also had a few boilies and Pellet over the top, within 30 minutes I was into my first fish.

A very hard fighting Common, it had a big tail, so it gave me a run for my money.  With the photos done and the rod back out, I sat looking at the lake hoping to find some fish in open water.  I will be back again tonight and there is no way I will be able to fish this spot at night, I would no doubt lose them all.  Not before too long the same rod was off again and that turned into a fight and a half, the fish nearly made it into the snags a few times, before it graced the net.

22lb 3oz Common

Not bad going for 2 hours fishing.

Unfortunately, still not seen any signs in open water

I have got the marker rod with me and my plan is to have a flick about with that before I go.  Not sure I will bother as I don’t really want to disturb the area.

With the sun coming out, it was feeling a bit like Summer. What a fabulous few hours today.

Until next time

Trip 40 – Carp Fishing – 2017

After not being on the lake for 5 days, I needed a good look round.  As luck would have it, there was only 3 other people on the lake.  I could have a good poke about  in the margins, trees, bushes for any fishy signs and after 2 hrs or so, I finally decided on this swim.

I was set up quite quickly, as I knew the spots I wanted to fish.  I catapulted out a lot of a Pellet and with only a few chopped catalyst boilies over the top.  I made up two bags, the same as my previous session, why change tactic when it’s working well?

Unfortunately, it was a very peaceful night, other than the birds.

Until next time

Trip 39 Carp Fishing 2017

After the blank trip the other night – I had a good look around the lake and spotted a likely area.  The following day I received a message from a friend who had also seen Carp in that area.  With that in mind, I headed to that area and they were a few carpy signs and the area had not really been fished yet, so I thought it was worth a go.

I was all set up before the rain arrived with two baits positioned nicely in a couple of silty gullys. I was all set for the night.  It was very peaceful until the alarm sounded on my phone, signaling pack up time.  This was quite a surpise, as I had heard a few fish crashing about in my swim through the night.  Oh well, but half way through sorting my kit out onto the barrow and with just a few bits left to go.  The right hand rod was off and attached to a  14lb common and a blank saver!  This does show you should never give up until all the rod’s are in.

Until next time

Trip 38 – Carp Fishing – 2017

With yet another Bank Holiday weekend upon us – I felt the best option would be to get a night in fishing on the Saturday night.  After all the Friday night angler’s would have done thier stuff and I found that when I arrived at about 1230, there were only 4 people about including me, which was fantastic.

With the wind now blowing from the South East (which meant it still had a chill in it) but it was so much better than the Northlys we had last week.  With this in mind, I didn’t fancy facing the wind, not just yet any how.  I spent the first hour checking out the areas of the lake which were at the back of this wind.

I put out a good load of my Pellets mix, loaded up two bags of pellets, added some Tiger Nut Liquid in one and food dip in the other.  I was interested to see which one the fish preferred, both rod’s had the same Ronnie Rig with a Frank Warwick Masala pop up on.

All set for a fish or two.  As I drifted off to sleep, I was feeling very confident and hopefull. I had a completely uninterrupted night’s sleep, with a couple of bleeps to wake me up nicely at 0730.  Now that was a suprise.  Maybe the wind change and the temperature rise had finally moved them out into the main body of the lake.

I shall take a look before I head home and we shall see which area we are in next time.

Until then

Richard
