Trip 106 Carp Fishing – 2017

As the mild spell is still continuing there is a real chance that the carp will be feeding for a prolonged periods.  I may have a chance of picking one up.

With no joy the other night, I have headed up the other end of the lake, in the hope of hearing something which will give me an insight to where the carp are.

With the arrival of my Evolution Carp Tackle stuff today, I set about changing over one rod.

I am hoping this combination or products with bring me a few fish over the coming months.  I am still sticking to the Catalyst Boilies on the other rod.  I also have the up most confidence in to catch carp.  It’s now the age old quest – I just need to find the fish!  I also hope they feed at night, as that’s when I do most of my fishing this time of the year.  The kids are now on Christmas break with festivities spread over a few days.  I am also sad to say my mum’s funeral is also upon us as she past away the other week.  Life does go on (as they say) and children love this time of year and we must not let it effect them to much.

Both rod’s have tiny Pva Bags filled with a mix of catalyst Pellets and Betafin Pellets Soaked in Minaminos for added attraction.  Which can only help at this time of the year.

With a couple of bleeps early on the the night, I was hoping they might develop into something – this turned out to be not the case.  The rain is due to arrive some time through the night (which was not forecast), my confidence has faded a bit and a wet pack up was looming (which is nice).  I’ve not had one of them for a long time, so better not complain about that.

Until next time

Richard

Trip 105 Carp Fishing- 2017

With the mild weather, I find myself heading for the carp lakes and the chance of a winter lump.

With a couple of options in my head and an idea where I may find myself a few carp hiding.  I slowly headed around the lake, as it was about 7 pm and clearly very dark.  I didn’t wish to disturb any of the other anglers and I found a free swim which was just perfect.  I had seen fish there on my last pike trip and the carp had certainly been here last year.  It looked like they were going to be here again.

Not wishing to put any big amount of bait out and the fact I had not been here for some time, I made up a couple of Pva Bags (mostly filled with Spotted Fin Pellets) and then added 6 catalyst boilies in each and a good dose of Minaminos.  With one rod on a bottom bait and the other on a dumbell white Catalyst pop up, I was all set.  One rod was put on my margin spot and the other was about 40 yards out on a lovely smooth patch where I always see carp showing.

With a few bleeps in the night, I was feeling confident, unfortunately it was not to be.

Until next time

Trip 104 Pike Fishing – 2017

What a perfect winter’s day to be out on the Hampshire Avon.  I was joined by a friend.

We opted for an area that neither of us had fished before and would enjoy a lot of walking.  We covered over 6 or 7 swims and managed a drop take and a small pike.

We had a good look about and found some very interesting spots for the future.

Until next time

Trip 103 Pike fishing- 2017

I am after the pike again today (this time on the lake) and if I am lucky I may well spot some carp.  It’s been sometime since I have been here and I need to get some insight before I come again.

The swim choice was going to be easy, I needed to be behind the wind, I am planning on getting a bait out, on a drift float.  This is something I have been trying to do for years.  However, when the wind is in the right direction for the big open water swims, there is normally a carp angler the swim I want to go for.  Lucky me, today it’s the perfect opportunity as I am the only one on the lake.

The Salmon Oil is doing its job today.  Let’s hope the pike are about to pick up the scent.  I have gone for herring & mackerel dead baits as normal.

Well, despite seeing the odd bream roll and smaller bait fish, I didn’t get a sniff of a pike.

Until next time

Trip 102 Pike Fishing- 2017

With all that rain (yes, no snow down South), I thought the river would be very murky and on the drop, it would be a great opportunity for a pike or two.  It was a lovely winter’s morning.

I headed for one of my favourite areas, as it gives me the option of a lot of spots and is not too far to walk.  I only have a limited amount of time and with no joy in the first swim I was on the move.

The second spot is in the Weir pool, which I have yet to catch a pike from.  Today could be my opportunity.  I certainly need to find a swim with some sunshine, it’s pretty nippy out here.

With no joy, I was on the move again.  The weather has been so mild until very recently the river has been very low and with no real floods, there is still a lot of vegetation about.  This is clogging up my normal spots, which is a shame.  So far, not even a sign of a pike.

I moved again and may be this time, there is a bit of sunshine about.

It was nice to get back on the bank after recent events but of a shame there was no pike today.  It was good to be out in the fresh air again.

Until next time
