I have learnt over the years, never plan to much and take it as it comes. I always have a target of a new PB but realistically this year could be the one. There has always been a chance but this year there is certainly a greater one, for both carp and pike and. You never know, I may even crack the Barbel on the Hampshire Avon – if I can drag myself away from the carp that is.
These two are the ones to beat but most importantly (and foremost in my fishing) is enjoyment. In the past, I got way too wrapped up in ‘I must catch this fish and that fish’, it certainly effected my fishing back then. Once I realised that we go for the buzz, the just being there and watching nature my fishing just improved.
Good luck all for 2018

This is it, my last trip of 2017 – I just had to have another go before the year is out. Clear the mind before the New Year starts. As the mild weather is still about, I was off down the lake for one last go after the carp. There is a weather front moving through tonight with a load of wind and rain (which will be fun), still not 100% sure if the fish like the heavy rain, more of the not opinion at the moment.
I have gone for this swim purely because I spotted a fish top here on my last trip – it’s the one in the video. The left hand rod is more or less where I think the fish was and the right hand one is a similar distance out. I did dump some bait here before I left the other week, however the bank has seen some angler pressure, as you can tell from the picture.
With this in mind, I am only using large Pva Bags filled with Betafin Pellets Soaked in Minamino for added attraction. As always, you need to give yourself the extra edge, I have also added a load of liquid into the bag.
With the sun going down, I sat and watched the water until the rain arrived just after 6 pm. Time for a few leftovers from Christmas and a glass of red wine to wash it all down. Let’s see what the night brings (other than the rain and wind), a nice lump to end the year on would help.
The wind and rain did arrive big time about 9 pm and continued until well past the wee small hours, when I finally got some sleep. The Delkims did they job in the wind and not a single bleep was heard all night long. I had a very boggy pack up and headed home to ring in the New year.
Until next time

With Christmas just round the corner and the mild weather still about, my family kindly let me out for one more night, before the festivities begin.
After my last two nights on here and not hearing a single carp, I thought I could give the middle part of the lake a go (or even the big bay area). Unfortunately, someone was in that area, so I headed off around the lake and having a good look about. With no sign of anything, I opted for a swim on the snaggie bank, in the middle of the lake and hopefully I may get to see some signs of carp.
All hidden away and hopefully a passing carp will take a fancy to my baits.
The perfect combination, what carp could resist? With a few crushed up catalyst pellets and Betafin pellets over the top. As it’s Christmas soon my food selection, as you can see, has a (nice and healthy) theme.
Just a glass of port missing – that will be Christmas day.
The night past without a single bleep. That was probably the quietest night I’ve had for a long time! Not even a single fish crashed! Would you believe it, a fish topped over the other side of the lake, when I was doing my last bit of my vlog this morning.
Well, folks time to head home for Christmas and a pair of very excited children!
Until next time
Richard
