Trip 26 Carp Fishing- 2018

With the family away last week, I am limited to one night only this week.  But with the high temperature, it may not be a bad thing.

There were a few anglers about as it’s Thursday night.  However, after a look about, I headed to one of my favorite swims.  I got the Deeper out to check it, I wanted to find a gully I like fishing.  With such a variation in the depth here (more to the point), you need to find the gully, where the carp move along.

A gradual slope leading down to 4ft+ and then up to 3ft

It does this very quickly.

I have baited up with two bags filled with micro pellets, crushed boilies and added a mixture of spotted Fin liquids.

Rod one has a 15mm Smokey Jack wafter on and the other has a 15mm FW Masala pop up.  I did well last year on this.

We shall see.  It was all peaceful until around 3 am when the right-hand rod was off.  It was attached to a very unhappy low double.  It was safely returned and the rod was back on the spot.  Within the hour it was off again also with a low double figured common.  I was very glad to see the fish have started to feed.  Mind you, with the water temperature rising, they had no option really.

It’s certainly a perfect morning for it – shame I have to head home in a few minutes.

Third fish of the night and all around this size.  They do motor around with tails as big as this.  With all stuff packed away and one rod on the ground, it was off for the fourth time!  Another similar sized fish, not bad going after last week’s struggle.

This is what keeps us keeps us coming back for more.

Until next time.

Richard

Trip 25 Carp Fishing – 2018

I had pack up from the Millpond and left at 0830 and head down south to meet Ian on the Airfield Lake for a 3 day social.  The weather conditions were looking favorable and we were both confident of a carp or 2.

I arrived around 2pm and Ian had just finished setting up in an area we thought would give us a change of a fish or two each.

We got the Deeper out, as Ian had not seen it on the bank working before.  I flicked it out to the area we thought would be good (we had previously fished this area before) and sure enough, there were a few carp in the gully.

It dropped down to 7ft of weed & silt and the Deeper picked up fish each time.  We decided to put a marker out in the middle and spomb a load of my ground bait mix and some chopped Smokey Jack boilies.  I added some Spotted Fin hemp & tigers (Particle) out over the spot.  The plan was to fish a rod each on here and move the other rod’s about a bit.  For the first night, we put all four rods staggered of different distances out along the line we had just baited.

I opted for a 12mm Smokey Jack pop up on one rod and a FW Pops ups on the other.  This had caught me a few fish at the beginning of last season here.

The night passed with no action, which we thought may happen.  The fish are not great fans of too much spombing, but the fish should move back over today and tonight.

The second day past with a very fresh NE wind, this didn’t help to boost our confidence.  I checked the weather for later on in the afternoon and was happy to see that by the early hours the wind would have changed to a southerly.  This was great news but still no sunshine.

In the morning, the lake was flat calm and I had managed to catch a very low double, my first fish from the lake this year.  Strange fact here – it was about the same size as I started with last year.  As the weekend approached the lake was filling up and it looked like it was one of those weekends where everyone turned up.

After the fog cleared on the last morning the lake looked perfect.  Unfortunately, we had only the one fish between us.  I have a feeling that the coming week will certainly start to wake them up somewhat.

Until next
