Deeper Lake Book Updated Features – need to check something

Since I have written my last guide to the lake book page, there have been some great updates.

Firstly under your profile, you have the ability to change from 24 hr clock to standard time.  Your profile can be found at the bottom of the page on the left-hand side; once you have signed into the Lakebook.

All changes must be saved

You can change from meters to feet centigrade to Fahrenheit using the down arrow under the units.

This will be reflected on the right hand side of the screen when viewing your chosen venue.

Also on the right-hand side of the screen, you have the ability to view what the symbols mean by clicking on the I button.

Measuring distance from point to point has not changed, this is still under the ruler button.

This changes into an X, you can now click on the screen at point A and then on point B

And a line will be drawn between the points and a distance calculated in your chosen measurement scale

If you are like me and wish to remove any unwanted information when looking over the bathymetry, if you click on the two squares on top of each other, a panel will appear with the choice of removing or putting them back on display.

POI = Point Of Interest or notes you have created on your deeper app on your phone/tablet.  On the screenshot below it is displayed as a page or a map symbol.  The map is the point you were standing in and the other is a note feature (where you can add pictures and notes).

Trips – is the individual records you’ve completed.  This is depicted by a-rod/reel symbol and if clicked on will display the area mapped at the time.

As before, you can switch between satellite or map view and remove whichever feature takes your fancy.

On the left-hand side of the screen, you also have my lakes, POI, and dashboard.

If you click on my lakes, it will bring up all the lakes/areas you have mapped.  If you click on one, it will expand another column; this being your point of interest (POI).  Remember you don’t have to name them, but it does help.  If you want to drill down into the bathymetry of each area, just click on one and it will open up the reading for this swim and the sonar readings recorded at the time.  As before, you can drag either play the sonar recording or move the bar along the bottom of the screen looking for features etc.

To rename each one – you click on the three dots, it will open up another a drop-down menu box, and then select edit info to rename, this will appear in the middle of your screen and simply change the title line.

If you need to know the depth of a particular spot, just click on the map and it will display.

If you click on the POI button on the left, you will get all the POI’s and notes you have created on the Deeper app.

The last button on this page is your dashboard, it gives you a summary of what you have been up to.

I hope this has helped you understand the Lakebook page a lot better and has given you a greater understand of the information available.  And more importantly, put some more fish on the bank for you!

Till next time

Richard

Trip 54 Carp Fishing- 2019

Location – Meadow Lake

Hours Fished – 18hrs

I made it back down the lake for another quick overnighter and the angler pressure from the weekend gone (and the fact that no one had fished in the swim I was in Friday night on a Saturday night), I was just drawback there again.  Not sure why but it just felt the right place to be.

I baited the same spot I had fished my right-hand rod on my last trip.  The left-hand rod, I moved to the bottom of the drop off on the left-hand side of the small island.  I’d seen carp there a few times before when fishing on the other side of the lake.

The wind was due to swing from NW to SW this afternoon, and a cloud front moving in.  The pressure was due to fall not supper low, but falling.  It was leading up to a very wet day on Monday; which if I was lucky, I would just about pack up in the morning before it arrives.

Just after 1am again, they like that time in this swim, the left-hand rod screams off and I pull into what feels like a nice fish.  No sooner than I did, the carp bumps off.  Not that again.  I thought I’d fixed that issue – apparently not.  I got the bait back out and got back into the sack a bit, there is always time for another one before my 6am packing up time.

It turned out to be the only bite of the night, but I’m happy.  It does show that I was right with where the fish are, just unfortunate not to land it.

Until next time

How Fishing Saved Me

As it was mental health week, a few weeks ago, I thought I would share how I believe fishing has helped me get through all the years of suffering and into many more.

My depression started, way back when I had no idea what was going on.  It is only in the past twenty years when the illness has been brought out into the open and less of a stigma attached to it.

Unfortunately, there is still a vast gap between people who suffer and people who don’t.  There is just no real way to explain that one second I can be perfectly ok and the next unbelievably sad and wishing I could burst out crying.  Which in a nutshell, is how I have lived my life for decades, there is no trigger that I can spot.

20190627_202805

I was prescribed medication a good number of years ago and took them for about a year when things were really bad.  But after reading lots about the long time side effect, I discided this was not the way forward for me and I just have to deal with this down moments in time my own way.

What I (and my wife) noticed it never happened when I was fishing.  In some ways, I thought was odd, as I generally fish alone and have done for many years.  I think we fish better like this; don’t get me wrong, you can see from my blogs over the years I have started to fish more, with other people.  I often wondered whether it was due to having fewer things going on.  Which can’t really be the case, when you consider how much time I have spent by myself before I took redundancy.  Work was so full-on, over 12 hrs a day and my mind was occupied with work 24/7, it still would kick in but a lot less.  However, over the past 4 winters, since finishing my shipping days and doing gardening now, the Winter months have become less active for both work and fishing.  There is a clear difference between the weeks where I can fish and the weeks I can’t.  I have come to realize that fishing is definitely my happy place or it could be just getting out into the countryside and the freedom of it all.  For me it’s the best therapy there is and I’m not sure where I would be without fishing.  There has been the odd time where I just could not get out of bed, but I found that I just had to go and tell myself, just go for a walk around the lake.  Inevitably, I would stay and fish, probably not to the best of my ability, however, I was out there.  It also goes without saying that my wife & family have been so understanding and letting me out in the bank all these years.

I have also found that it’s a great satisfaction for seeing my friends catch carp – it must be the emotion of the moment which rubs off on me.  I get a great sense of well being.

I do hope this helps people and maybe, it’s worth taking up fishing of some sort.  It may just turn out to be the best therapy you can ever get.
