I arrived a bit later due to my wife’s car issue, reaching the location by 8:30 AM. Prior to that, I had a discussion with a fellow syndicate member about recent sightings in the past 24 hours. It appears that the area around the point swim seems promising for my goals, but choosing the specific spot remains essential.

My aim for this winter is to target both a mirror and a common, both ideally surpassing the 40lb mark. The mirror frequents this swim often, and there was a potential sighting last night according to Andy, making it a good starting point for me.

I cast both rods onto the spot Andy had baited for a few hours, intending to relocate one rod while keeping the other in the main spot.

Later around noon, I utilized the Deeper sonar and marker rod to explore. I discovered a promising spot slightly to my left, not too close to the margins. After confirming its suitability, I baited the area with four pouches using a catapult and repeated the process for the other rod using a spomb.

Approaching lunchtime, I realized I hadn’t even made a cup of tea or organized the rest of my gear. I began setting up, nearly finishing the overwrap when my wife called about her car. Unfortunately, the news wasn’t what I wanted to hear. It would cost £500 to get the car back on the road, and it wouldn’t be ready today. I needed to return home as the kids had after-school club commitments, and my wife might require a lift back home and to work the next day. Additionally, our eldest had an early morning college exam.

It was disappointing news, something I typically don’t handle well. I reluctantly started packing up, contemplating whether I should have stayed home, waiting for the car diagnostic.
