It’s been just under a year since I’ve fished the mill pond and a few things have changed – not too much though. It’s still the lovely tranquil lake I remember.

I have three nights to enjoy here and a social with Rob at the same time. After a long talk on the phone in the week, Rob suggested that I might like to fish this swim as a few fish had been coming out from here. It’s a good place to start.

I baited up with a little of my ground bait mix and some ground up Smokey Jack boilies. Both rods were baited with 10mm Catalyst pop-ups, as I had forgotten the Smokey Jack ones. DOH!
The first night past with no action. This is what I had been expecting as the fish had been coming out in the daytime. There had been light rain on and off through the night which had kept the temperature up. As the carp like to feed in the rain, I was quite happy with this situation. I was up at first light due to a single bleep from a tuffty on the right-hand rod.
I rebaited both rods around 1030 and changed over to 12mm Smokey Jack pop up that I got from Rob’ s bivvy!

The baiting pole was in operation again and filled with chopped Smokey Jack boilies. Which was more like crum.
Well, the baiting pole trick paid off and within hours, I had managed my first carp of the trip.

Which I was very happy about, the baiting pole was reloaded and pushed out again.

I had to wait until the following morning for my next take, this is not a bad thing as daylight helps in this swim.

A lovely 25+ mirror, with stunning colors. With the baiting pole rod in place again, I was feeling quite confident for another fish or two today. After 30 minutes, I was into another fish – a small common this time around the 10lb mark.
It was lovely to see the sunshine this afternoon.

It certainly made the lake look stunning.
The second night and day produced not a touch, which was a shock. We shall have to see what this evening brings. After that, it’s an early pack up as I am off to fish with Ian on the Airfield Lake for the next three nights. I am hoping for a couple more carp before I head back home.
The last night past with no fish what so ever, which again was a shock as we had seen more activity than previously. Perhaps they where just waking up and having fun.
Until next time
Richard

I’ve driven past this lake a few times in the last couple of weeks and am incredibly intrigued. Looks like a fantastic little spot to know.
