Trip 7 Carp Fishing (2013)

I am back out for yet another night, even though there is still a very cold N/E wind blowing, with a wind chill Of -7 according to Metcheck.  But, as it’s April I feel the fish must want & need to feed soon.
I was late leaving work and got to the lake at 1830.  Luckily, the clocks had changed at the weekend and I still had plenty of time before it got dark.  My swim choice was going to be easy, any swim on the east bank.  It would protect me from the wind, and would also be the warmer side of the lake.  Unfortunately, there were already two people set up on this side in the middle.  I was limited to above or below them, I did not fancy the shallow end, so it was back down the deeper end.

Rod -1 was cast into a small dip in the margin that I have been baiting up with the odd handful of Gulp baits Tuna & Spice Bollies.

Rod -2 was cast just of the monk (outlet), with a 12mm T&S a half a Coco & Banana 12mm Pop up.

With all rod’s done, it was time to get the stove on for a brew and bite to eat.

I woke up to the sound of my buzzer beeping and the rod tip pulled round and a fishing taking line.  After pulling into the fish, I found it was a 4/LB Bream not what you need a 3am!

I recast the rod, after check the hook was still sharp and then back off to bed again.

I awoke to my alarm clock at 7 am, and it’s time for work.  Before I leave the lake, I always check the water/ground temperature, the water was down to 4c and ground was 3c, now that’s not good for this time of the year.

Oh well, till next time.

Trip 6 Carp Fishing (2013)

Well after the last trip with no joy, I was determined to put an end to this blanking, as it was getting beyond a joke now.
So, I headed back to the same lake, and this time walked around the other side to fish the margins and put a lot of small pellet out to put more attraction into the swim and some broken up bollies.

I selected a swim, that had done well in the past, and knew the features of the lake bed.  I even changed both my rod’s back to my favorite rig ( blow back), which I have great confidence with.  This, in turn should give me the confidence in my fishing and put some carp on the bank this time.

Both rod’s were baited with 12mm Gulp baits Tuna & Spice boilles.

At around midnight, I had my first and last carp of the night.  The bream moved in and after 6 bream and not a great deal of sleep it was time to pack up a get off to work again.

Unfortunately, the carp was not the biggest in the lake.  More likey, the smallest, but still a carp.  It’s a shame that none of the carp I saw topping did not pick my bait up.

Trip 5 Carp Fishing (2013)

Well, I am out for more punishment again, as it’s another cold night.  This time, I have picked a nice easy lake, lets hope my plan does not let me down!  I arrived at my favourite club water just after 6pm and I quickly set up in the main part of the lake.  This would give me plenty of options to move the rods around if I spot any fishy movements, as I was the only mad carp angler out tonight!

My swim in the fading light.

Rod 1 was a chod rig with my favorite white pop up on, which was cast across to the far margins under the trees in a deep area that I had found last year.

Rod 2 was a sit up and beg rig with another Gulp baits white pop up on, with a small stick bag.

I awoke to a single beep at 2am, only to find it was also snowing, not a lot mind.  Well back in the sack again, only to wake up to the alarm on my phone which I had set to go off around first light so I could recast to any showing fish.
After 15mins of no signs, I recast anyway, with fresh baits and stick bags. I had until 0715 when I needed to pack up for another day In the office.

Carp Trip 4 (2013)

It’s been a while since my last trip, due to the extreme Winter weather coming back again.
I arrived about 1ish on Saturday afternoon, to find only one other person on the lake, who was fishing at the shallow end at the back of the reeds.  I was hoping to fish the reeds but, with it being Winter still, I thought I would head down the deep end at the back of the wind.wpid-20130316_141131.jpg

                                                                    MY SWIM

Rod 1 – was a small stick bag with a 1.5oz lead, as there is a bit of silt down my end and I did not what to get stuck to deep in it.  I had my normal Gulp bait Coco and Banana 12mm pop up on the Sit up and beg rig.

                                                                  Stick Mix

Rod 2- was a zig rig again with a zig bug

There was a nice southerly strong wind blowing, so I was hoping my luck would be in this time, as I have not had a carp in 2013 yet and by now I normally have had a some.

Well that’s another night over with no fish action.

Trip 3 Carp Fishing (2013)

I am back out again, and this time I am on the lake that holds a nice big common carp or two, even with the water temperature still only 6 degrees.  I felt like I needed to start my quest to catch the big one.  I have managed to get the afternoon off work, which will give me a chance to look round the lake in the vain hope I see signs of Mr Carp.  Well, with a work party clearing some swims at one end of the lake today, great, that ruled that end out.  They were felling a tree that was going into the water, let’s hope that this pushes the fish down the other end of the lake.  After an hour looking around with no signs of fish at all, I settled for a swim in the middle of the bottom half of the lake with a good all round view, so I could keep an eye out for any signs.

image

Rod 1, was put just off the edge of the swim, as there is a nice clean spot in 4ft of water that I have been baiting up over the past few weeks with Gulp baits Tuna & spice bollies.

image

I used a 12mm Coco & Banana as before on a sit up and beg rig.

image

Rod 2, as the weather was warm (ish) but overcast, still I thought that I would still give the zig rig a go again
With one of Mr Nash’s Zig Bugs.

image

I awoke to the sound of my alarm this morning (not buzzer alarms), with no beeps in the night it was time to pack up and head off to work again.

Till next time
