I arrived back down the Airfield lake just before 7pm after a fun drive through the New Forest. I was trying to avoid the traffic jam but failed badly. After my last trtrip, I had put a load of bait in before I left, in the hope of fitting in a day session. This I also failed at this week, you can never win them all.
I did have a good look round first but I just felt the need to give this swim one more go. There were clearly fish about last time, so with that in mind, I set about finding a nice margin spot, with the Deeper.
The best area was to the right of me, which left me a lovely spot not to far out from the other rod.
As night fell I got my head down and fell asleep only to be woken by a belting run on my left-hand rod. After the normal long battle on here, never really knowing if you have a 10lber or a low twenty. It was in the net and quickly transferred to the hooking mat, upon lifting the net you discover what you have and for me, it was a pleasant change, a nice common at 18lb 4oz. Not the big lump we all search for on here, as we all love the unknown and wildness of this lake but never the less a fish is a fish and I was very happy.
With the rod recast it was time for some more kip as it was not even 2am yet.
My next take did not arrive until well after first light. It was just gone 7am when the same rod rattled off again, with another common, but not as big as the last.
15lb 14oz
It’s funny that I haven’t had a take on the margin after getting all those liners the other night. I was convinced I would get a take off that spot but one of the spots I found the last trip with the Deeper. It has done me well and next time I may well switch them around again.
