After yesterday results, I was feeling very keen to get back down the lake (this is a good sign for me at the moment).
I arrived down at just after 8am and a few minutes behind another angler. He was heading for the island, but this still gave me the opportunity to get back into the same swim. The conditions are similar to yesterday, you just never know. I was unable to get any freebies out before I left yesterday, as there was another angler present and I just don’t feel its right to bait up in the same area of the lake as someone else.
I was adopting the same tactics as yesterday and hopefully things will go my way.
Very strange today – I’ve had no liners or seen any carp. It could be that there are 5 anglers on here today, all well spread out and not interfering with each other.
I only spotted one carp and that was under the tree where I was fishing close to, but that is where it was staying.
I had absolutely no action at all, amazing what a day can do to change the lake. May be the extra anglers or the pending pressure change overnight. What ever the reason they clearly where no having it and as far as I could tell, no one had a touch.

The kids are now back at school and hopefully things are heading in the right direction. I’ve organized my gardening rota and I’ve decided once we are able to do nights again, I will start on my new syndicate and fish it Sunday, Monday, Tuesday nights as there is likely to be less anglers pressure. I’ll only have a limited time to to do this as once my wife is back working in the office, I will need to return to my house husband duty’s. This in many ways will be a big relief as that will mean the holiday industry is getting back on course and Covid has turned into something we have to live with but fully under control.
I arrived down the lake at just after 10am (I had a dentist appointment before hand), only to find the car park empty. I preceded to walk around the lake, double checking spots, before I headed back to the area I’ve been baiting up over the previous weeks (where possible), when I was fishing. This was starting to pay off and also for a few other members unbeknownst to them (of my baiting up) or could also be the mixing up of my baiting and theirs – you just never know on club lakes. I got both rods on the spots and received a couple of liners before 11am, hopefully this was a good sign, unlike my last trip out. It was just after 1pm when the left rod burst into life, with what felt like a nice carp, as I was fishing the far margins, I slowly played the carp back to my margins and then played it out under the rod tip for about another 5 minutes until it was definitely ready for the net. The last thing you need is a lively fish on the bank.
17lb 8oz mirror, just perfect and I was well over the moon. I then got a message from the wife to say my letter from the NHS had arrived to book my covid jab, made the day even better! With the baits back out, it was time for a brew.
The same rod was away again, but unfortunately after playing the carp to the net, the hook pulled out. These things happen once in a while, I checked the hook and recast my bait back on to the spot.
I’m going to give it until 1430 today as I very much need to get my jab done. My family will confirm that I’m a bit covid paranoid. To get shot on the last few days of the fight, would be stupid in my book. I was very shocked when I went into town to my dentist this morning at how busy the roads are and the amount of people. It’s as though covid has vanished overnight.
I just don’t fancy going back into lockdown once we get out at the end of March. It would be very frustrating for the people that have behaved themselves over the passed year.
I had a few more lines, but no picks ups, I’m sure if I had stayed longer it would of happened, but there are more important things to do sometimes.

Today, the weather conditions are better than I thought they would be. There’s a good NE wind blowing, however, the sun was out and if I could get a swim that was facing the sun, I could set my brolly up and shelter from the wind. The NE wind blows directly down the lake, so there’s no real best areas to pitch up, but I felt the sunny bank would be more favourable and if possible the same swim as my last trip as there must be something that they love about that margin!
I arrived at just after 9 am and I was the only car in the car park, which was a shock after the past couple of trips and I wasn’t now really sure of the best plan of action. So, I loaded the barrow and had a slow walkabout and left it in a few swims, but I was still being drawn back to that swim which had produced the better carp for me recently.
The margins were looking perfect , the sun beating down on them. It was definitely worth another go. I’m going to have to sit on my hands a bit, the bites didn’t arrive until noontime and there’s a chance that the hook bait was in the wrong spot for the morning. After I moved it, the takes happened. The left rod is going to be more of a roving rod today, I’m sure there are carp about in open water as I had a few liners, I just couldn’t get a pickup, even after moving the rod. This time, I’ll be recasting every few hours with a string on with half cut up boilies to release some attraction.
I will also be scattering some 8mm Catalyst pellets and 12mm Catalyst boilies, in the hope of attracting any passing carp. They may just be simply moving up or down the lake. I’d a heavy liner on the margin rod just after 1015, which resulted in me striking and getting no contact with a fish. I flicked the rod back out after checking the hook, all good there.
I recast the roving rod at just after 1pm (as no action had materialized) across to the far margins as the sun was over there. From mid-morning onwards, the sun had gone and the clouds had moved in, it felt like a different day. This would account for the lack of action and not seeing any signs of carp. When the sun came out again just after 3pm, I felt like I could be in with a chance again but there is a fair chance I’m heading for a blank. I’m not going to complain about after my last two trips out.
With the sun going down and the temperature dropped rapidly it was time to get home.
