It’s Fishing Time

I’m back out after a few weekends off when I’ve been away camping with the family in Wales.

Fantastic times and weather, now it’s time to get my fishing head back in the game.

Trip 14 Carp Fishing – 2023

I’m home all week as my wife’s away for work and I’ve switched around my 3 working days, so I can get out for a day session. I wasn’t that successful doing days when this syndicate first opened, but I’ve learned a lot in these 9 years of fishing on here and I’m hoping that something will happen over the course of the 5 hours I’m here.

My swim choice would be limited, as I would be arriving after all the other day anglers, but there’s so much choice on here. I’ll be fine.

I didn’t fancy where I pitched up the other day, as it was due to be very sunny and that swim hadn’t produced in these conditions. It’s a good backup swim and strangely my first choice, based on the wind and sunshine was actually free. This was certainly a surprise. There were 4 other day anglers about and a couple of night anglers on the Bottom Lake. This left me with the Middle Lake, which I didn’t fancy for day fishing. Out of the five-day swims I had on my list, one was taken, and another one had someone in the swim next door. This left me 3 including the one I fished on my last trip. I will do a blog soon on the way I have a list of options on swims before I arrive – so you can understand.

Traps all set one under the overhanging trees to my right, with a couple of ground bait balls and sweet corn, plus a few pouches of 11mm Catalyst pellets.

The other rod is in open water, off the side of a very evil gravel bar, with only a few 20mm Classic Corn Boilies spread around.

I’m in what is called the Tower Swim, which is the old WW2 control tower for the airfield that was once here.

I’m feeling very confident, as there’s a good blow on the water from the east, which is a bit unfortunate. The margin spot is nicely in the shade, and the carp absolutely love these margins, they just need to come around the bigger overhanging tree first.

With not many signs of carp and my Delkim receiver being delivered back to me today from Delkim all fixed. It’s due to arrive between 1400/1500 hours and it may just be worth heading home before it arrives – to save me mucking around trying to collect it from wherever. I was hoping to have a few carp crashing to my right along the margins, but I’ve not heard a thing that is s a bit strange and is making me feel I’ve selected the wrong swim. However, the only carp I’ve seen have been off the island and I’m sure something stuck its head out, about an hour ago over my left-hand rod.

I think a 1 o’clock reel is my best option today, and I may just fit another day in on Friday.

Until then

Richard
