Trip 15 Carp Fishing – 2023

The wife has returned from her adventures and there’s a break in the horrendous weather conditions. I’ve popped out for a night before the next weather front moves in tomorrow morning with heavy rain. It certainly goes to show you that all lakes fish differently from each other or it is just my luck! However, I’ve never caught in heavy rainy conditions and I generally don’t bother with wet weather gear.

I arrived around noon and turned left, I headed for the main car park, there were only 2 cars in the car park. Unfortunately, the owners were occupying the only two swims I fancied along that point. I got back in the car and headed off to the opposite side of the lake.

I’d hurt my right leg last night after I failed to notice I was three steps up, rather on the bottom step of my staircase. The jolt of that has done something to my calf muscles and I can’t put a great deal of pressure on the front of my foot but can walk on the heel of my foot. This restricts the distance I can walk even with the power barrow. I’m hoping it’s short-lived, a few ibuprofen and a few hot baths will be the solution to my stupidity. This year isn’t going great so far, more of a continuation from last year.

As I was driving around the lake on the track, I spotted a couple of carp crashes out in front of the large island where you can fish off. This is interesting. I parked the car by the entrance to the Island Car Park and walked a bit further up the track towards where I was pitched up last week. There was no one in that swim, but I could clearly see a couple of cars in the car park. This will not be possible soon as once all the trees green up, you simply can’t tell.

Back to the car and into the Island Car Park, I grabbed my bucket and headed off for a slow walk or limp. I walked into the first swim after the bridge, and there was another carp showing, along with a few fizzings around the area.

Perfect. Now I just needed to get over the metal bridge with a dodgy leg, along with my first attempt with the power barrow, with three wheels! There was a bit of a close call, which I ended up putting way too much pressure on the right leg and it certainly wasn’t happy.

Nicely hidden away under the trees and out of the sunshine that had arrived not long ago. I wasn’t going to be rushing to set up today, firstly, get the bed set up, so I’ve something to sit on, then get those rods out there

I’d planned something different, but with my leg, I opted for a PVA bag filled with pellets and then stick out some 20mm Classic corn boilies every so often. This would enable me to rest up between setting up.

Once the rods where sorted, I took my time over the next few hours until everything was all sorted and the coffee pot was on the go.

I was up at 0530, all packed away in the car and heading for home. With my tail between my legs again, with yet another blank under my belt, hopefully, my catch streak will start soon.

Until then, I’m enjoying the surroundings and the wildlife.

Until next time

Richard

Lucky Kingfisher Today

Shame the sunlight was completely in the wrong direction, but it was always nice to see these birds flying around the lakes each day.
