I am out for 48 hrs this weekend for a social with a friend and the conditions are looking spot on. A nice bit of wind and rain pushing though over the next 24 hrs, this should stir them up.
We have gone for a swim on the back of the wind for a change, mainly because this is the deeper part of the lake. We both feel this will give us the best opportunity to both catch fish.
Well, the first night didn’t go according to plan – mostly down to me, a small lapse of concentration and tiny lack of attention to the detail, as I thought I had a small bit of putty on my pop up rig. However that was not the case and you guest it, I was fishing 7 inches off the bottom, oops. One rod wasted for that night, the other rod was perfect but still no fish.
After a brew with my friend, who hadn’t suffered the same problem as me. He had banked four low double figured Carp, all on bottom baits and had a good laugh at me. He did tell me that there were plenty of fish in my swim over night. Attention to detail catches the fish.
With another band of rain moving across the county around lunchtime, it was time to mix up some more groundbait balls for me to Spomb out.
With a mix of groundbait, 8mm Catalyst pellets, catalyst boilies, it was Spombing time and a good opportunity to test out the Fox Warrior s&m rod, which Tackle Fanatics had sent me to put it through it’s paces.
Nice action shot, thanks to my friend (and his camera/video work). Plenty of action shots for me to play with.
I changed over to a 22 mm Catalyst bottom baits and a 18 mm Wafter. I flicked a couple of bags back out onto my spots, let’s hope the carp move onto my baits this afternoon or through the night.
Another very wet and rainy night had passed by with no fish for me again. I can’t believe it, reports from around the lake by other anglers the lake is fishing very slow and quite hard at the moment. I normally don’t find this, I will just put it down to bad luck. I have also not been here for a month and have lost touch a bit with the lake.
Very pleasant morning and a nice sunny day coming, which is nice after all that rain.
Until next time
Richard

Excellent blog Richard, some great shots of the weekend. I guess you’ll now be subconsciously double and triple checking that putty for a little while to come!
