I have returned to the Mill Pond for a social, for the next three nights.  After a look around in the area that Rob had kindly pointed me in the the direction of.

And a trip out in the boat, looking for fish and clear areas in the weed to fish.

I have settled for the pads swim, which will give me plenty of options if needed.

Rod – 1

I have found a nice large clear area, where I spotted some fizzing on arrival and subsequently checked it out from the boat.  I scooped a spoon fulls of my pellets, boilies and sweetcorn mix over the top.

Rod – 2

Was just off the far margins as this is where a few fish had been digging as I drifted past.  That got a few scoops as well.

Rod – 3

Was going to be a bit of a roving rod, until I felt happy.  The first choice was a small clear area by the pads and just off a weeded area.  I didn’t put much bait out on this spot and I also found another likely spot, so this got a handful of Catalyst boilies as well.

Day/Night – 1

The first day and night, were uneventful on the fish front.  However, we did have a good natter, a few drinks and I caught up on my sleep from my 4 am start!

With clear sky’s and a sunny day looming and no fish, I may as well just have a walk around and bait a couple of holes in the weed and flick a single rod out. I found a few fish who were held up in some pads on the far bank, they also had quite a lot of weed.  I was going to have to be very accurate with my casting and after a couple of flicks, I was spot on.  With the rods on the floor, I sat on my bucket and waited to see what happened.

After 3 hour’s with not a sniff, I headed back to my swim as the fish where being a bit more active.

I moved things around a bit and had 2 rods on the far bank, just off some pads, where there is a channel between the weed beds and the fish had been showing here.  My other rod was moved from the outside of the pads to the inside, where there is a deeper area and a couple of fish had crashed there the night before.  Not much bait was put out, as I didn’t feel the fish were feeding that heavily.

We settled down to another social night and Rob had the first take of the trip, a nice 18 lb Mirror.

After a night of liners, I was quite shocked to be still without a fish on the bank and during the night the fish activity was very noisy – I could believe it.  It just shows that sometimes you need to be in the perfect spot.

Unfortunately the day was very uneventful for me, however Rob had a stunning fish.

I had slightly changed the position of my left-hand rod, to a clear spot, a lot closer to the far margins.  This was in the hope of intercepting any fish moving along there.

Can you believe it,  I get a funny take and it turns out its an eel who wound around the line and had been attacked by a pike!  I am not going to get that rod perfect again, well until first light, anyway.

I woke up this morning, to Rob asking if I could do some photos for him and amazed that I had not had anything.  As I have written about before, obsession is the key to success.  I hadn’t noticed that Rob’s fish had all come on Wafters and I was using pop ups due to the silk weed. With that in mind, I set about changing my rod all over to Wafters and get them out for the last 4 hour’s, in the hope of a fish.

With the photos done, we sat and chatted about the lake, future plans and a few cups of tea where consumed.

Unfortunately, the last few hour’s did not bring any luck my way.
