Trip No18 Carp Fishing (2014)

Lucky me, Iam out on a Saturday night and the weather is perfected. Stong S/W winds in my face.

I have picked this swim purely on the fact the wind had swung around in the last 24 hrs, and its blowing upto 40mph from the S/W, this swim looks so carpy.  My friend has also set up just down the bank.

He is tucked away nicely by the reeds, his bivvy is an Aqua Product Atom Bivvy.  It’s a stunning bit of kit and I may invest in one myself.
Rod-1 is out some 50 yards with a large bag on and a single hook bait.

Rod-2 is to the right of me on the entrance of a small bay.

It was not long before a rod was off and I was into a hard fighting common of around 10lb and dispite it’s size, it would not give up the fight.

I can’t believe it, just lost a fish on Rod 1 as well.  I haven’t dropped a fish for years and it happens twice in a month. Well feed up.

Anyway the traps were set for the night and I thought I had better get my head down, all set for a busy night fishing!

Well, to my amazement I didn’t have a single fish in the night and woke up to a text message from my wife and kid’s to say good morning at 0830.  The wind was very rough in the night, so I was shocked to wake up so late.  I put the kettle on and wondered off to chat to my mate.  Whohad had a much better night and landed 4 fish upto just under the 20lb mark! That was the sort of night that I thought both of use would have had.  Oh well, that’s fishing and well done to him.  Lucky for me I was here all day and am hoping to get some fish.

Rod 2 was positioned a bit farther out towards the bay, as I have had no action on the rod at all.
Rod 1 stayed were I had had the takes from last might.

Let’s see what the day brings.

It was now nearly 1500 hrs, the wind was still blowing, however, the sun had come out and I was not so confident as I had been.  Yesterday’s weather was so much better.  I was planning on staying until 1630 and then head home.  I am not sure if I will get out for another week or 2 as work is looking busy.  Mind you, you never know I may beable to squeeze a Thursday night in.

Till next time

About richardhandel

I would like to give a brief snap shot of my life and introduce myself; My name is Richard Handel and was born in 1965 in Suffolk. I have worked as a UK Operation & Intermodule Manager for a shipping company. I live in Hampshire now and am married with 2 young children, both girls so I am a bit outnumbered even the cat is a girl! I have been fishing since I was about 7 years old. I started on small local rivers in Suffolk, then moved onto gravel pits and then carp fishing. My personal best is a 39.08 mirror, over recent years I have started river fishing again, on the Hampshire Avon, this is a nice break from the carp lakes. My life has turned a big corner this year, the company I was working for relocated their Operation centre to Estonia. I was offered a job at the head office in London. This would have meant a 5 day commute and working in Stratford. As a family, we did not fancy this, as I would hardly spend any time with the children (and the Mrs). So after 22.5 years, I was given a nice redundancy package and with my wife is working full time. I became the house husband. This has meant a complete turn around in my fishing, as I can pick and choose when I go. I have found a splendid new syndicate to fish this year, which includes 5 lakes and some 8 miles of river with only 150 members. It's an amazing change to the way I am able to fish. I am now trying to start my own tackle business and make a bit of a name for myself in the world of fishing, as I have retired from real work. Richard

They’re getting ready to spawn by us. We’ve been bowfishing for them all week, and they’ve got tons of eggs in them. The boyfriend was out last night while I worked, and got some smaller commons and even 3 longnose gar! Last Saturday night I think our biggest carp was a 25 pounder, in probably 3-4 feet of water over sandy bottom.
