Trip 61 Carp Fishing 2021

I didn’t think I was going to get out again this year – I had a bit of a disaster with my phone on my last trip. Last trip I found myself driving down across the New Forest as the sun was setting and you have to agree, it looked stunning.

New Forest Drive

What happened to the phone? I hear you ask. Well, I arrived at the lake in good time and after a drive around I found I was the only one here. I slowly looked about for carpy signs and I may have even seen some show a couple of times in the same area. I headed over there, got the Deeper out, had a search about, found the perfect spots, and got to hook baits perfectly placed. Then it all went wrong! I dropped my nice new Samsung galaxy s21 ultra on the floor, I thought it was safely in my pocket and yep it landed face down in the rocky swim – the screen was cracked, but it did sort of work for about 10 minutes. During this time the implications of what had happened started to kick in, I checked the phone and it wouldn’t turn on, that was my choice made up, I simply had to go home, I need to be contactable for the kids the following day (if there were any issues at school). By then I was pretty grumpy about the incident.

Very dead phone

I was extremely lucky as a friend lent me a spare mobile as I don’t have one and I really need one for work. The only other option was to borrow one of my kids, any of you with children will know it’s like pulling a tooth separating a child from their phone. Must thank Kev and give his YouTube channel a shout-out as it’s definitely worth following, thanks again, you certainly saved me a lot of aggro.

It’s now a week later and it’s getting fixed at a cost of £ 275, not the best thing this time of the year, but it could have been worse.

Wet set up

This week’s drive was not so nice as it was raining, however, I made it down in time to find two spots and got the rods wrapped up, and got some bait out there before another heavy shower pushed through. My swim choice was really based on having my car behind the swim, I knew that it was going to be raining for the best part of the evening this would save on time and it was just about getting it done before the real wet stuff arrived.

Deeper Scan

I was very happy with how the setup had gone, it’s always a bit tricky in a swim you’ve not fished for some time, finger’s crossed for tonight. This was my third choice on my list of options based on the weather and information gleaned over the past week. It felt perfect. After the worries and not really feeling it for fishing recently, it’s definitely nice to be back on the bank for a few nights.

Morning

The night was bleep-free, with the exception of the odd gust of wind setting them off occasionally. I’m going to give it until 11ish, then get the Deeper out, drift it around the swim, get a picture of where the weeds beds are, adjust my position if I feel the need and get a bit more crumb out there. There’s sunshine for most of the day and there’s a warm front coming in over Saturday, however, the pressure is on the up.

Both keeping warm

My friend kept warm with me, this morning I gave him a few biscuits crumbs. Just after 11 am it was time to get the Deeper out and search about the area. In the end, I decided to leave the rods where they were, better in the weed beds or nearby.

I topped the swim up with some more crumble boilies and would rebait my rod’s later, hopefully when the wind has dropped, as I need to get them perfectly positioned.

Sunshine at last

The day was warm and sunny, but I needed to be out of the wind to get the full benefits of the sun.

I rebaited both rods about 1 pm as the wind had died down enough for me to get them sorted perfectly. By nightfall, it was looking like it was going to be a cold one. I’ve made the decision to head home tomorrow as I feel it would be better to come back another time and stay a bit longer. The better weather is coming on Sunday this week and I feel I’ve missed the boat a little, but that’s fishing.

I can only hope tonight brings me a result.

I was up early, during the night I listened out for fish a few times, with no signs of carp and none crashing out, no beeps whatsoever. There were a couple more anglers arriving in the dark hours, which hopefully may get the fish to move about and give me a fighting chance over the next few hours.

It was soon packing up time, I wanted to get home early on Saturday morning for the family.
