Trip 10 Carp Fishing – 2022

The weather was spot on for the School Lake today. Unfortunately, the other club water which had good carp in it was closed for maintenance and therefore there’s a good chance of the School Lake being busier than normal. I may have to change my plan of approach, depending on the number of people fishing. When I arrived, there were 3 other cars in the car park, however, they were fishing as a group and had set up next to each other. I had worked out the perfect swim to fish, especially as the trees had mostly gone. This gave you the opportunity to walk along the bank more, place baits, and the ability to cast to different spots from other swims that you normally couldn’t.

The Swim

This swim now gave me access to my favorite spots without having to move.

The right rod was off the corner of the island, away from any snags that I had found on previous captures. The middle rod is across to the far bank, in the margin spot I’ve caught from before and the same with the left rod is down the margins to my left. They all have a mixture of scattered Catalyst pellets and 12mm boilies.

Within twenty minutes, the middle rod was away and attached to a head-shaking carp that succeed to drop the hook after a couple of minutes.

With that rod recast and another car pulling into the car park, I was pretty hopeful that as I was the furthest away from the car park and the chance of rain today, I should get left alone.

It was about ten-thirty when the middle rod was away again and this time, the hook stayed firmly in place.

That’s better. After losing one so quickly, it’s nice to get another chance and all being well one of the other rods may well go off.

It started to rain just after lunch, even though it wasn’t forecasted. There’s definitely a drop in temperature when the sun goes behind the clouds. The clouds had thickened up nicely, and there was a blow on the water. I was set up on the back of the wind and was glad of my brolly.

I had a bit of a crazy thirty minutes, which all started with a baby carp going back, glad I didn’t do any photography as it would have been even more problematic.

I had three carp in all at this time, which is why I bring along two nets. You can simply peg them down quickly, net the next carp in the other net and then sort them out with less stress as possible.

I have about an hour left before home time and you just never know how it’s going to go in the last hour.

The left-hand rod did finally go off; unfortunately, it found something to slip the hook.

That was an absolutely joyous trip today with plenty of action and a great deal of fun. It just goes to show I’m not doing anything wrong on my syndicate water, it’s simply fishing hard at the moment and they will switch on soon.

Until next time

Richard
