I’m back down the lake a lot earlier than I had planned, my normal Tuesday job was cancelled, so it was an opportunity to get back down the lake. The conditions were not all that favorable, with a drop in the air pressure for a day or two, it’s not much of a drop, mind you, but it could make all the difference. There’s a change in the wind direction, blowing from various easterly points. With no option to fish at the weekend and the longer sunny days, it is worth a try.

There was a really heavy frost this morning, which soon melted away. The deer were out and about, a clear sign that I was the first to arrive. It was really stunning walking about this morning but with no signs of carp. So, I headed back to where I fished last weekend.

The left-hand rod was on the same spot where I had previously caught the carp from last week. I’d gone back to my original spot, as well, from last week’s trip. I’d put about 4 spombs out over each rod and planned on leaving the baits in situ until home time on Thursday morning.

As always, the sunset was stunning, I was soon tucked away in my bivvy with the heater on, watching the last rays of light going behind the trees.

The colours you get this time of the year are just wonderful and the same with late Autumn.

The rods and the buzzers were a bit frosty this morning but by 10am the sun was up and thawing everything out. By 11 am, you couldn’t tell it had happened, unless you were looking for a spot in the shade, which was still white.
I was lovely and warm on my bivvy, all tucked up in my sleeping bag last night, so must the carp have been as I didn’t hear a fish or get a single bleep. Slightly expected after the hard going times of the last couple of months.
I’m planning on leaving the baits in situ as much of today as possible and will consider rebating them later this afternoon.
I decided I would take a walk about in the sunshine this afternoon, looking in a few corners, that I don’t often get the opportunity to look in.

It took me just over an hour and it was certainly nice to stretch my legs as another cold night wasn’t too far away and another 12 hours on the bivvy. Winter can certainly be hard going as you get older, I can understand why people simply don’t bother, however, it can be so rewarding I haven’t gotten to that point in my fishing (yet).

With the rod’s back out and Mr. Robin happy again, it was time for a brew and nearly time to sort out tea. It was lovely sitting in the sunshine yesterday afternoon.

Another amazing sunset last night, the temperature was a slight bit warmer last night, with less of a frosty morning, and the prospect of some sunshine this morning. This is giving me some hope that it’s not all over yet and I could manage a fish if I’m lucky. I will give it until 11 am and then, I’d better start to pack things away slowly. I need to get organized for my up and coming 5 nights when the family is away over half term. It will be nice to get in another long session, but with things the way they’ve been for the past six months, I’m not counting on it going to plan!

Which I’m sure is affecting my fishing train of thought. However, Spring is ever closer, and the weather conditions will improve. Hopefully, all the sickness will fade away, and the fishing will start to come together again.
Unfortunately, it was another bleep-free night. I was up around 2 am listening out for any signs of carp. Alas, only the Canadian Geese were about and soon got upset with me walking about, they have an amazing sense of hearing and are completely in tune with their surroundings.
Until next time
Richard
