Trip No 71 Carp Fishing (2016)

I am out again in the same swim as my last trip, in fact it’s the next day!

I have added a bit of corn to the mix, in a hope to tempt the carp to feed.  It’s been quite a slow start on the lake, I have been told.  The fish started to spawn last week, but never quite finished.  So I think they may be a bit moody.  I am hoping that the rain will help them to get their heads down for a few days before it warms up again.

At around 1130, my alarm beeped and the tip hooped round and I was attached to a very unhappy Common.  After a good battle, the fish was finally under control and at last in the net.  Time to breath and let the heart rate slow down and they say fishing is boring.  Try fishing in a small swim, 3 ft from the bank and 4 ft from your rod tip, it’s like an explosion of life, at the moment of a take.

Change of swim for the last few hour’s.

Within fifteen minutes, I am off again, this time attached to a tench who just want give you a fight.  With the swim well and truly disturbed, I moved back to my original swim, as the fish where still around when I left yesterday.  There was a good chance of another take.

And an hour later and another mega fight with a couple of heart stopping moments, this beauty was in the net and tipping the scales at 29 lb 10 oz .
I was very happy with my 4 hour session today and well worth the effort.  Which included wet feet and soaked to the skin with all the heavy rain, as it’s impossible to set a brolly up.

Until next time
Richard

About richardhandel

I would like to give a brief snap shot of my life and introduce myself; My name is Richard Handel and was born in 1965 in Suffolk. I have worked as a UK Operation & Intermodule Manager for a shipping company. I live in Hampshire now and am married with 2 young children, both girls so I am a bit outnumbered even the cat is a girl! I have been fishing since I was about 7 years old. I started on small local rivers in Suffolk, then moved onto gravel pits and then carp fishing. My personal best is a 39.08 mirror, over recent years I have started river fishing again, on the Hampshire Avon, this is a nice break from the carp lakes. My life has turned a big corner this year, the company I was working for relocated their Operation centre to Estonia. I was offered a job at the head office in London. This would have meant a 5 day commute and working in Stratford. As a family, we did not fancy this, as I would hardly spend any time with the children (and the Mrs). So after 22.5 years, I was given a nice redundancy package and with my wife is working full time. I became the house husband. This has meant a complete turn around in my fishing, as I can pick and choose when I go. I have found a splendid new syndicate to fish this year, which includes 5 lakes and some 8 miles of river with only 150 members. It's an amazing change to the way I am able to fish. I am now trying to start my own tackle business and make a bit of a name for myself in the world of fishing, as I have retired from real work. Richard
