Trip No 35 Carp Fishing (2015)

I am back out for my Sunday afternoon/night trip which I have missed recently, mostly due to fish – I must add.

I am fishing one of the Winter swims which I will be fishing this year.  Due to my house husband duty’s, I did not arrive until after dark.  I needed to do a bit of forward planning, lead around and take notes of distances to spots, in all the swims I will be baiting up with Bait-Tech Poloni boilies this year.

The first spot is to my right on the drop off of the bar which runs off some bushes.

The right hand rod with be along this tree line, or maybe in the entrance to the other part of the lake though a gap.  There are two,  so I am still undecided on which spot.

Both rods have had a good few large spombs over the top, with a good mix up of ground bait, pellets, 14mm, 18nm whole and broken up boilies and a few tiger nuts mixed in.  All of these will keep the carp interested.

What carp could resisted that?

Well finally after 2 tench and a bream, I banked a nice hard fight carp.  This fish must have more or less taken the bag on the drop.  I had decided that after the last tench, my bait was not quite right, so I re-baited with fresh bait – a small bag of broken Poloni.  After a perfect shot under the trees and as I turned to walk back to the bivvy (after setting the bobbin), the rod was away.

18lb 10oz Common

There was a beautiful sunset tonight as well.

I weighed one of the tench and it was 5 lb 14 oz, not bad.

At around 1 am I had my second carp of the trip, an even harder fighting 15 lb 10 oz common.  This proved harder to get in the net than the 18!  These fish in here never give up!

With the alarm clock going off at 5 am, it gives me plenty of time to have a brew and watch the lake before I need to be off by 0645.  This was all the action I had, not bad really.

Till next time

Richard

About richardhandel

I would like to give a brief snap shot of my life and introduce myself; My name is Richard Handel and was born in 1965 in Suffolk. I have worked as a UK Operation & Intermodule Manager for a shipping company. I live in Hampshire now and am married with 2 young children, both girls so I am a bit outnumbered even the cat is a girl! I have been fishing since I was about 7 years old. I started on small local rivers in Suffolk, then moved onto gravel pits and then carp fishing. My personal best is a 39.08 mirror, over recent years I have started river fishing again, on the Hampshire Avon, this is a nice break from the carp lakes. My life has turned a big corner this year, the company I was working for relocated their Operation centre to Estonia. I was offered a job at the head office in London. This would have meant a 5 day commute and working in Stratford. As a family, we did not fancy this, as I would hardly spend any time with the children (and the Mrs). So after 22.5 years, I was given a nice redundancy package and with my wife is working full time. I became the house husband. This has meant a complete turn around in my fishing, as I can pick and choose when I go. I have found a splendid new syndicate to fish this year, which includes 5 lakes and some 8 miles of river with only 150 members. It's an amazing change to the way I am able to fish. I am now trying to start my own tackle business and make a bit of a name for myself in the world of fishing, as I have retired from real work. Richard
