Trip No 35 Carp Fishing (2014)

As I have only got one month before my syndicate closes for the Winter (as part of the SSSI agreement with English Nature), bird breeding season.  (I am sure they breed in the Spring – must be just my garden  ; -).

I had plenty of water to choose from.  The problem was, the deep channel which runs in front of the swims, which was to the left of me did not come this far down and I had to spend a long time finding the right spot.  Everywhere was between 2 and 2.5ft of water.

I did finally find a deep silty area off the side of the island.

There is a bay between the point of the island .

After Spoding a nice amount of Bait-tech boilies, one on the hook with a small peace of foam and a two bait stringer to stop tangles. First rod was done.

If you look carefully you may spot my marker float, as I had found I nice 3ft silty area just behind a bar that was only 1.5 ft deep.  That should do the job.

I had already flicked the left had rod up the margin, however, as there was a small bar between me and the over hanging bushes, I felt this was not an option for a rod to be there at night, always think of the fishes safety first.

As you can see, I have also had to put a small v shaped stick in the ground to make sure my line is safe, as I have a long landing net pole, this is also across the gap.  For when I get a fish.  As you can see this would not be an option.  So the plan is to move this rod to the other spot as the sun is setting.

Unfortunately, no joy in the night, Oh well.

Till next time.

About richardhandel

I would like to give a brief snap shot of my life and introduce myself; My name is Richard Handel and was born in 1965 in Suffolk. I have worked as a UK Operation & Intermodule Manager for a shipping company. I live in Hampshire now and am married with 2 young children, both girls so I am a bit outnumbered even the cat is a girl! I have been fishing since I was about 7 years old. I started on small local rivers in Suffolk, then moved onto gravel pits and then carp fishing. My personal best is a 39.08 mirror, over recent years I have started river fishing again, on the Hampshire Avon, this is a nice break from the carp lakes. My life has turned a big corner this year, the company I was working for relocated their Operation centre to Estonia. I was offered a job at the head office in London. This would have meant a 5 day commute and working in Stratford. As a family, we did not fancy this, as I would hardly spend any time with the children (and the Mrs). So after 22.5 years, I was given a nice redundancy package and with my wife is working full time. I became the house husband. This has meant a complete turn around in my fishing, as I can pick and choose when I go. I have found a splendid new syndicate to fish this year, which includes 5 lakes and some 8 miles of river with only 150 members. It's an amazing change to the way I am able to fish. I am now trying to start my own tackle business and make a bit of a name for myself in the world of fishing, as I have retired from real work. Richard
