Trip No16 Carp Fishing (2014)

I am out again and it’s another perfect night.  The only downside is the wind and rain are coming from the north.  This means there is a chill in the air.  Tonight’s temperature will be OK,  however tomorrow night there will be a frost.  I am hoping that Mr Carp sense this and have a bit of a feed up.

I am going to put a rod on the far margin, it would be silly not too!

On that bush will do me fine. I then stuck a load of boilies out with the throwing stick.

My right hand rod was a single hook bait cast to the right of the gap on the tree line, (with no free offerings) there was a gluged hook bait with a tiny bag.

I sat back and enjoyed the view and the wildlife.  The alarm was set for 0530 (again).  With yet more rain, it was time to get in the bag, and no sooner than I did that Rod 1 was off (it was around 2130).  After a hard fight, with the fish trying to get under the overhanging trees and into the snags, finally a nice 18-8 Common was in the net.

At around 1am the same rod was off again.  Unfortunately, after 10 minutes of hard fighting from the left margin and up the right margin the hook pulled, some 10 ft away from the net (gutted).  Oh well,  I rebaited that rod and recast with a bag on,  so there was a mouth full of foods around the hook bait.

I was right, now it’s 0348 and I have just lost another fish!  I was tempted to not put this down in writing.  However, when I started this website, I promised myself it would be a true account of my fishing trips.  With that said, I have just lost more fish in 4 hours than I have lost in 8 years! Oh well, these things happen and I can still remember the last times with great pain, I suppose thats fishing.  On a brighter note, my friend who is fishing with me tonight has just texted saying he has had 3 fish.

Well, at least I was not writing about Mr Carp feeding up last night.  Shame I did not get them all in the net.

About richardhandel

I would like to give a brief snap shot of my life and introduce myself; My name is Richard Handel and was born in 1965 in Suffolk. I have worked as a UK Operation & Intermodule Manager for a shipping company. I live in Hampshire now and am married with 2 young children, both girls so I am a bit outnumbered even the cat is a girl! I have been fishing since I was about 7 years old. I started on small local rivers in Suffolk, then moved onto gravel pits and then carp fishing. My personal best is a 39.08 mirror, over recent years I have started river fishing again, on the Hampshire Avon, this is a nice break from the carp lakes. My life has turned a big corner this year, the company I was working for relocated their Operation centre to Estonia. I was offered a job at the head office in London. This would have meant a 5 day commute and working in Stratford. As a family, we did not fancy this, as I would hardly spend any time with the children (and the Mrs). So after 22.5 years, I was given a nice redundancy package and with my wife is working full time. I became the house husband. This has meant a complete turn around in my fishing, as I can pick and choose when I go. I have found a splendid new syndicate to fish this year, which includes 5 lakes and some 8 miles of river with only 150 members. It's an amazing change to the way I am able to fish. I am now trying to start my own tackle business and make a bit of a name for myself in the world of fishing, as I have retired from real work. Richard
