Well it’s Easter Sunday and lucky for me I have a very understand family. After great fun was had by all on the Easter egg hunt around the garden, it was time to load the car and try to get down the lake before the rain arrived. No such luck.
I was not sure if there would be any swims free, as it was a holiday weekend. However, I was hoping that everyone may have gone home after 3 nights, also rain was forecasted. Sure enough, to my amazement, there was only one other person on the whole lake. Whilst having a good look around, I found my bank stick still in the swim where I had been last time. That was a stroke of luck as I did not know I had lost it! This told me that no one had been there since by last trip. As I had put out the rest of the Snatch boilies I had left over last time. I though this must be my best option, I had not seen another fish in another areas.
And the rain did come down before I set up, Oh well, can’t catch on the sofa.
Rod-1, was put on the same spot as the trip before.
I used my shot from last time, as didn’t what to get any wetter. All the same as before, big pail of Infustion Baits Snatch Boilies, with 2 baits on the hair.
Rod-2, Was moved to in front of the opposite point’s swim. I was hoping that no one would set up there as I am a great advocate of fishing etiquette and I personally would not set up there, if I saw someone on the opposite bank. However, if someone did, I would be happy to move my rod.
I had also looked at fishing this swim and disided, that it was too small and dangerous to fish the small spots. Also , the overhanging tree came out a lot. This gave me the idea that I could walk around to here, bait up and then cast across.
My bait was put just to the left of the tip of the bush. I was hoping that this was an inspection route that the carp used to get into the small bay that rod 1 was in.
This photo gives you the view of the right had bush with rod-1 on and the point with rod-2 on the left handside bushes.
Time for a brew and to warm up.
Spring is most defently here as the baby duckling are about .
The wind finally settled on which direction it was going to blow overnight and the sun had come out. It was time to reorganize my swim. I wanted to be much closer to my rod’s than before.
Hopefully close enough tonight.
I woke up at 0630, having only a couple of bleeps to get the heart pumping in the night (and not much sleep). I have had to start to analize what may have gone wrong. Hopefully, for my next trip I will not to make the same mistakes again. I have come up with 3 possibilities;
(1) the fish were just not there – Possible, but can’t believe that after my trip 3 nights ago. However, have only seen fish topping in the far corner to the right of me, I will need to go for a good look in that area before I am off.
(2) I normaly use fluorocarbon line. However, as I needed to clip up for the cast, I swapped it over to nylon (as this was all I had), even though I had sunk the line and slackend it off. It looks like a bow string across the lake this morning across to the other point. This then draws a nice line across the bay leeding to my other rod on the tree line. This may have spooked the carp.
(3) The carp may not have like all that cold rain. I doubt this, as I have heard and seen a few.

My gut tells me its option 2. Therefore, I will be up in the loft looking for my other spools with clips on that have fluorocarbon on. I have a great deal of confidence in it.
Anyway I still have 4 hours of fishing to go.
Oh well, just when you thought you may have cracked it, you blank, but that’s fishing and thats why we love it so much.
Above is the view from the opposite end of the lake to where I was fishing.
Till next time
Richard
