Carp Fishing Trip 18 (2013)

I am back out again this time for two nights.  However, it’s over the weekend and its busy. I have been lucky enough to get one of the swims I was hoping for.  As the weather is going to be hot, I wanted to get a swim near the pads or in between.  I believe that the fish will be out and about moving through the pop lilly pads.

I have cast a rod not to close but near the right set of lily’s with a Nash Tackle Zig Bug .

The other rod is in between an overhanging tree and the pads.

The Pop up is Gulp Baits Absolut Plum.

First night and day

With no joy in the night and the wind pushing to the far bank, I moved the Zig rod over there for the day.  With only one sign of Mr carp in the pad by me at around 5pm, it was getting to that time of the day when I needed to review my tactics. I had had lots of line bites in the night, this may well have been pike as they had been after the Roach in the evening.  However, when the carp pasted through my swim earlier, it had done the same. There was 3ft deep of the front of the swim.  I ground up some bait in a Korda Krusha and put the contents just off the edge of the swim.

I would drop a bait down there at night fall, as I am still confident with the Zig rod’s as the far bank still looks carpy.

at around 8pm I changed over to a bottom bait for the night.

Second night and day

Well, that did not work. I am going to give it till noon, then pack up and do some work on my allotment (Southamptonallotments.com).
I have put the Zig Bug back on and dropped it on the edge of the pads, where the fish past though yesterday,  Let’s hope that works or it’s going to be yet another blank and this time two nights (not very good), as a footnote out of the 6 anglers on the weekend, no fish have been out however I am still not very happy blanking.
I am off to fish Hollbrook Mill Pond again soon, with my old friend Rob Nunn. Let’s hope my fortune can change with his help.

My bait is on the edge of the pads.

By 2pm I had had enough, there were no signs of Mr Carp which suprised me a bit.  I had a quick chat with the guy in peg 1 and he had only seen one fish show in two nights.

Oh well, back soon

About richardhandel

I would like to give a brief snap shot of my life and introduce myself; My name is Richard Handel and was born in 1965 in Suffolk. I have worked as a UK Operation & Intermodule Manager for a shipping company. I live in Hampshire now and am married with 2 young children, both girls so I am a bit outnumbered even the cat is a girl! I have been fishing since I was about 7 years old. I started on small local rivers in Suffolk, then moved onto gravel pits and then carp fishing. My personal best is a 39.08 mirror, over recent years I have started river fishing again, on the Hampshire Avon, this is a nice break from the carp lakes. My life has turned a big corner this year, the company I was working for relocated their Operation centre to Estonia. I was offered a job at the head office in London. This would have meant a 5 day commute and working in Stratford. As a family, we did not fancy this, as I would hardly spend any time with the children (and the Mrs). So after 22.5 years, I was given a nice redundancy package and with my wife is working full time. I became the house husband. This has meant a complete turn around in my fishing, as I can pick and choose when I go. I have found a splendid new syndicate to fish this year, which includes 5 lakes and some 8 miles of river with only 150 members. It's an amazing change to the way I am able to fish. I am now trying to start my own tackle business and make a bit of a name for myself in the world of fishing, as I have retired from real work. Richard
