Trip 1 Carp Fishing 2013

This is my first carp trip for this year, as the weather has been so bad.  We have had 3 days of steady weather and it’s sunny in the day.  The water temperature as started to rise, it’s still cold at night however.
I have picked a swim by the reeds, as in the past years the fish have been seen and caught from this area.  I arrived at first light to hopefully see signs of Mr Carp, unfortunately not.

My first rod was placed off the end of the reeds, about 3ft with a zig rig.  Hoping to tempt any fish drifting out for a mooch around.  The other rod, was cast just off the edge of the reeds.  With a small white pop up on, which I find very affective in the Winter.  I also put a small amount of broken bollies and pellet out.
There was a lot of fish moving in the reeds today and I was very hopefull the a carp would vencher out a bit and pick up my hook bait, but this did not happen.  I have settled down for the night after my last brew and some biscuit’s.  Not that hopefull of getting one in the night, as the temperature is dropping again, but you never know.  However, the sun is out again tomorrow and the fish should be moving about more.
The night was a bit of a non-event, I was up at 0330 as the right hand rod gave a few beeps and then again at 0400, but none of them turned into a take.  Well, the sun is out again and I have recast the rod’s and moved the zig rig  rod out into more open water, which I have had a couple of beeps but that was that, lets see what the day brings.

It’s1630 now and signs of Mr Carp in the reeds has stopped, as the temperature has started to drop.  The sun has been behind the trees for some time and a nice cold wind has started to blow on to the reeds I feel it’s time to reel in and go home.

that,s all for now

About richardhandel

I would like to give a brief snap shot of my life and introduce myself; My name is Richard Handel and was born in 1965 in Suffolk. I have worked as a UK Operation & Intermodule Manager for a shipping company. I live in Hampshire now and am married with 2 young children, both girls so I am a bit outnumbered even the cat is a girl! I have been fishing since I was about 7 years old. I started on small local rivers in Suffolk, then moved onto gravel pits and then carp fishing. My personal best is a 39.08 mirror, over recent years I have started river fishing again, on the Hampshire Avon, this is a nice break from the carp lakes. My life has turned a big corner this year, the company I was working for relocated their Operation centre to Estonia. I was offered a job at the head office in London. This would have meant a 5 day commute and working in Stratford. As a family, we did not fancy this, as I would hardly spend any time with the children (and the Mrs). So after 22.5 years, I was given a nice redundancy package and with my wife is working full time. I became the house husband. This has meant a complete turn around in my fishing, as I can pick and choose when I go. I have found a splendid new syndicate to fish this year, which includes 5 lakes and some 8 miles of river with only 150 members. It's an amazing change to the way I am able to fish. I am now trying to start my own tackle business and make a bit of a name for myself in the world of fishing, as I have retired from real work. Richard
